I bought these a year ago and they are still in mint condition. You truly get what you pay for with these headphones. I invested about 1000$ into a quality custom sound system in my car, which sounds excellent and these headphones can keep up with the car system just fine. These headphones are all about studio quality, so you will hear sounds in your music you did not originally hear before listening to them. Not only is the sound quality extremely majestic, the build quality is glorious. I've had these headphones for a year now, and i'll admit to dropping them a few times... picked them up and no scratches or nothing. Now lets talk about bass... These headphones will not vibrate your entire surrounding with bass, they will vibrate your dreams with bass.TLDR, Crystal clear quality, excellent build quality. You get what you pay for and more.Comes with 3 different cables, one with a coil wire that will extend farther then your imagination, a short one, and a moderately sized one. Headphones come in a protective pouch. http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/99aff89488ddd6b1/

So I got this over a month ago and I must say I'm really satisfied with the product. Best headphones under the $200 mark. I been using them on a daily basis and gotta admit, I was worried it would not isolate the outside noise; I was wrong. The quality is outstanding, even for bass enthusiasts, which will depend on the device you are listening and its equalizer. Portable and lightweight.

So in terms of experience, let me tell you how it worked for me:

-Traveling: used the headphones on an airplane were, unfortunately, there was a crying baby. Headphones were able to isolate enough not only the plane's engines but also muffle the baby's crying. The volume wasn't even on the highest setting and it was pleasant to enjoy my music. Low or orchestrated music did requiered a bit of volume but nothing serious. Overrall, between this and the BOSE Quiet Comfort (which my brother owns), BOSE would be perfect for %100 isolation, but the Audio Technica will definitely give you enough isolation to not even notice the plane's engines... Or crying babies.

-Video Editing: using this for recording video and even for detecting high peaks in the sound hasn't been so easy. True sound. It comes with 3 different adapters, one of them with an audio component for connecting to your guitar or amplifier. Haven't used them personally but if you need this device for audio production, these headphones fot you covered. On the video editing it was perfect for matching the vocal sounds and background music so well that when the final product was done, the sound designed kept the same quality and it was accurate to what it was listened on the headphones.

-Sports and Outside use: I use my scooter to go around town and something that kept me worried was that if I wouldn't hear traffic or anything I should be paying attention. Fortunately, this headphones gave me enough sound quality and isolation to enjoy the music and listen to traffic around me. Also very confortable while riding the scooter. Walking works just fine but running might be a little uncomfortable, but for any type of big headphones might be a common problem, so I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

-Music: Outstanding. High and low notes sound beautiful. Great bass. Do I have to say more? Best way to test this headphones? Bohemian Rhapsody from Queen. The single song with most tunes in my opinion.

I have never used the sound amplifier that comes with it because the volume level has work for me but for the price is worth the extra.

Packaging is simple and comes with a small bag to carry the headphones, no hardcase which I would rather have but that one is sold separately.

The only thing that disappointed me was not having an option for getting an accidental plan. I was willing to buy one but the Audio Technica Amazon site apparently doesn't offer this. BOSE does, so what gives? Might be a nitpick but like many other brands, they are giving this option even here on Amazon.

I like this headphones, even better than the overpriced BEATS. If you are looking for true sound and music quality under $200, this are the headphones you are looking for.

TL;DR:
-Perfect for Airplane travel, not a noise cancelling headphone but gives enough isolation for enjoying music at not high volumes.
-Quality and precise sound for audio and video production.
-For sports due to its size might be uncomfortable but is more of a personal opinion.
-Walking on the street with this will have the perfect balance for the music and attention you need to hear traffic.
-Amazing music quality.
-Portable.

The Ath-M50x is an excellent headphone for a cheap price point. The M50x, with good looks, even better sound, and portability make this a very effective headphone, especially at a price tag around $100 to $200 (USD).

A high school student tired of broken earphones and earbuds, I have looked around for the search of higher quality audio as well as some lasting durability and value as well (this was a few years ago). I never was interested in Beats due to their trendiness, and especially with so many people insulting the general sound signature of those headphones. The M50x was the first headphone I bought, and it fits into a quality list of headphones.

I will make this review as short as possible before I waste time writing sentences that are not presentable due to their lack of flow.

Pros:
Sound
Price
Build
Easy to switch earpads as well as attach headbands.
Isolation
Accessories and detachable cables (with locking mechanism)
Portability
Solid Looks
Comes with Fiio E6

Cons:
Comfort (before simple mods)
Clamp Force for first time use
Sound stage not as large
Does not benefit too much from amping, but sounds nicer from a good source

Some terminology (You can skip it as these are just my definitions) I recommend looking for a Head-fi thread with terminologies
Source: Where the music is being played from
Amp: Headphone amplifier, like the Fiio E6. Although many portable amplifiers are big compared to the E6
DAP: Another term for music player, but plays more than Mp3. Some sub-100 options include the Sansa Clip+ and the Fiio X1 (I use the X1)
DAC: I plug this to my PC, then to my amp, then to my headphones. The DAC converts the digital signal of the sound, but in other words, most DACs should be able to make your sound cleaner/more enjoyable depending on what you get.
ANC: Active noise cancelling that some Beats and Bose models have. Sound quality is degraded though.
Lows: Sound frequency level where the bass is at
Mids: Male and female vocals fall into this sound frequency.
Highs: Treble belongs here
Neutral: A sound that is flat. No extra bass, treble, etc.
IEM: In ear monitor. These are known as earphones as well. Earbuds do not go inside your ear canals, while these do.

Accessories
The M50x I received was from a retail-like box with a hook meant to be hanged on a wall. The material of the box is cardboard, but that did not bother me as I opened up the box to find the M50x, three cables, a travel bag, and a 3.5mm to 6.5mm adapter. The cables comes with a short portable cable, a coiled cable, and a long cable. The coiled cable can extend to the length of the long cable, and all the cables but the short cable can use the 3.5mm to 6.5mm adapter. I found some papers (one being a warranty) and a travel bag as well, which is a must have for portable carry. This bundle specifically has the Fiio E6 and has a rubber band or cloth depending on the seller. The Fiio E6 comes with a serial verification as well as a usb charging cable, a short 3.5 male to 3.5 male, and a long cable of the same connectors to connect the source to the amp, then your headphones into the amp. I had a rubber band as well, for attaching the Fiio E6 onto a phone or DAPto prevent it from dangling around in the air or my pockets. I was not dissatisfied with the accessories overall. Note that I do not know if this came with an airline adapter as I either let it collect dust or just did not receive one.

Build, Comfort, Isolation
These headphones feature a plastic and metal band for the headband. Overall, these feel solid and have a nice weight to them that does not suggest any signs of flimsiness. The cups feature tilt, swivel, and can be folded up for a very good fit and portability. The build is very solid. Moving on to the comfort, we see a strong clamping force during first time uses, so that should fix itself up after a while, and I was not bothered by the process. The headband features a little padding, so you may want to grab something like a Sennheiser HD600 or HD 650 headband to glue onto the M50x in case the headband really hurts you. The earpads are a little small and become very warm, but I have no had any extremely big complaints as I can always switch to my set of Shure earpads. As for isolation, the closed back headphones isolate plently of sound, and you can immerse yourself once the music starts playing. Those who use ANC may not be too impressed, but I need to personally compare this myself. With a solid build, easily fixable comfort, and decent isolation, the M50x does not lack in this section. Note that a plane trip will strip the bass of these headphones, and increase the highs for listening. Not the best for somewhere like a plane, but hey, I still use them outside in areas like the city whenever I'm there.

Sound
The M50x, for me, is far from a "neutral" sound signature, and really feels like the popularity of these headphones would not have been this high without a consumer friendly sound signature. The M40x, however, has been said to have a more neutral sound signature, but I personally cannot confirm that. These headphones still have a very good sound for the price regardless of whether it is neutral or not. The M50x boasts more of a consumer-friendly v-shaped character. However, this is actually good as many people would be underwhelmed by a neutral sound signature, which I could have a while back if I didn't choose these. I personally find these headphones very fun, and easy to just kick back and relax with these.

The lows feature some deep sub-bass, as well as a mid-bass with plenty of speed and attack. The mid-bass also features some nice punch to it. The M50x will have no trouble catching up to songs featuring rapid bass, while also delivering the sub-bass in the background as well. Overall, the bass is very consumer friendly and is the first step to the v-shaped sound signature, and definitely is not lacking to my ears due to a good bass body.

The highs of the M50x are very crisp, and will not fatigue you after long listening sessions, and also have a good amount of detail in them.

While the lows and highs are very prominent, the mids feel more recessed in comparison. This causes the sound signature to become more v-shaped, which is a consumer friendly sound that should not be bothersome. Male vocals are pretty good, while female vocals feel a little drier. You might think this is bad, but with the excellent bass and crisp treble, the mids put the vocals more behind rather than up front, and as a result, the mids are actually fine for the sound signature. I have personally been used with sound signatures with excellent mids, so an average consumer will have no problem with the mids and will be having fun with the bass and treble.

Sound stage has a good width and a decent height, but the depth feels a little lacking. Some mention that the soundstage is low even for a closed headphone. However, for portable use, the sound stage will not necessarily be the best part of the music to concentrate on, and the consumer should not have a problem with these headphones. Instrument separation is actually very good, but nothing like an analytic signature, although instruments should be identified without trying to hard.

I give props to a consumer friendly sound that is more v-shaped than neutral. Other headphones like the Beyerdynamic Dt880s are headphones with a more neutral signature. The M50x produces excellent sound for its price and should is forgiving enough to consumers, meaning that the sound is easier to enjoy if you haven't tried out other sound signatures.

Amplification (Fiio E6, other amps) (Soon)
-Coming soon with the Fiio E6 here
I am holding back on this section so I can fully listen to the Fiio E6 once again.
Although currently, my setup is a Schiit Modi 2 and a Schiit Magni 2 connected to my PC.

Comparisons
M50x vs the Fidue A83
The M50x is a sub-200 dollar headphone, while the Fidue A83 is a sub-300 dollar IEM. I personally will not be comparing these like headphones vs. IEMs, but I will compare the sound of both of these.
The Fidue A83 is a hybrid IEM, featuring two BA and one dynamic driver, meaning there's one driver acting sort of like a subwoofer, delivering bass that the other two drivers cannot deliver as well. The M50x is just one big dynamic driver. I do not expect a winner to these two as the sound signature are pretty different as well as these two being very dependable on a person's opinion.

The Fidue A83 features a more neutral bass, but is not completely neutral. However, the bass is very punchy and has excellent speed and attack, while the M50x features more sub-bass extension with a stronger body, while also delivering a punch and attack to compete. The M50x bass is deep, with a very fun bass-body, while the A83 bass is closer to a reference (neutral) signature with a bass body that is natural as it fits with the rest of the A83 sound signature. The quality are both excellent, with the winner only being based of sound preference.

The Fidue A83 has a mid-eccentric sound, meaning vocals can be easily felt (female vocals are very nice here). The M50x has more recessed mids in comparison, and the difference is noticeable for me. Although I would give the A83 the edge here, the M50x's v-shaped signature makes the mids laid back, which is not really bad for the consumer. (It seems that less people purely enjoy just the mids the most, compared to others like bass-heads or treble-heads).

The Fidue A83 features smoother highs, where the M50x highs are very crisp. The Fidue A83 is not fatiguing, but still is brighter than the M50x. I'd actually take the M50x's highs if I were doing listening sessions of VERY long periods. This is just another factor dependable on personal preference.

There's no point doing a IEM vs headphone, as I simply prefer IEMs for portable use, and use headphones for home listening. The Fidue A83 was a more reference type of IEM that opened my ears to see the M50x as a more v-shaped sound that appeals to consumers. I said that I wanted a analytic sound that was neutral when I first looked at headphones, but now I realize that I wouldn't enjoy it if I tried neutral first. The A83 might be called "reference," but the A83 is still not completely neutral with lush mids, and bass with highs that are also above the neutral level. The M50x opened up sound quality for me, but my sound preference will be a whole other adventure.

Comfort Modding
-Coming soon

Conclusion
The M50x is definitely a winner, especially with the price. With the build, sound, and comfort being exceptional, I really have no where to complain unless I want to be pessimistic. Even after a few years, I am still surprised at these headphones and appreciate more and more of these. Even my cousin is showing off this value to many of the people wearing Beats headphones. The bottom line is to get these headphones if you aim for value and sound quality. I personally do not regret this purchase compared to similarly priced headphones, and would have spent over $100 dollars in order to get something better (and this does not include an amplifier that many of the higher priced headphones need). I will update this with revisions to the text as well as adding in extra sections and content when I have time.

Updates:
- 2/21/15: Complete revision to the sound section and added first comparison.
