Pair that with ease-of-use (literally plug and play), and you have, simply, the best little 1Gbit Ethernet switch out there. And it's design is pure old school electronic elegance - you know, back in the day when stuff was made better... The entire body is wrapped in metal - no gaming device plastic fantastic to be had. All business here.
Traffic LEDs on the front panel, Ethernet ports on the rear, one small DC connection on the side. How much simpler can you get? :D
Excellent job, D-Link. Please make more of this style!
Highly recommended!!
It truly is a REAL desktop switch... What I mean is that the lights are displayed on the front while the cable plug into the back. So, you can have it on your desk (or shelf) and be able to see the lights and activity without the cables having to come around to the front. So many so-called desktop switches have everything in the front, which is great for a rack, not for a desktop.
So happy with this I bought one for my office also.
Another PLUS of this switch is that the power input is NOT on the back amid all of the network cables, it is on the side.
One Suggestion: Provide T-shaped mounting slots, instead of just I-shaped. I wanted to mount this on the wall at 90 degrees, to soften cable bending, but had to settle for a 45 degree angle, so it would lock onto the screws. Othwerwise I am VERY PLEASED with this switch, and I am buying at least one more.
In case anyone else has the same idea, yes, it works.

Its 16GBPS or 2GBPS X 8 ports (havnt tested this as my home or camp network is not that intensive).
What i can tell you is every port on it performs as if they were all directly connected.
No disconnects, random packet loss, and i have not needed to reset it via the power plug since i started using it.
The wifi router i use for my phone and wireless devices away from home also has not needed to be rebooted since plugged in to the switch (a 2-3 day occourance before hand) which is a huge plus.
I bought the metal model for $30 which is great for what it does. Considering i take this on the road with me so i have no worries of it breaking in my luggage.
Stays cool. Works. The lights are a little bright but only show through on the front so you can just angle it away from your bed/couch so its non intrusive.
It picks up your in connection almost instantly and it just works, the out connections are almost as fast. I may buy another to permanantly install at home to replace 5 port switch i paid the same amount for.
Also: the box does include slots on the back to wall mount the switch the biggest con to the device is the power cable is very short (3ft). But hey ethernet cables are as long as you want em to be!

Simply plug and play. My Mac Mini and my Windows Gaming rig both took to it instantaneously and with no resetting IP or configuration required on my end.
As far as unmanaged switches go, this one is the best I’ve used. Not to mention the metal build quality is truly built to last and looks at home in my room (I bought the metal version, but a plastic is available at the time of this review). Pair this up with some solid cabling and you’ll have no regrets ;)
