-Installation-
First comments concern the packaging. Being a third time EVGA customer, their packaging has come a long way. Instead of a box with a poorly fitting bag stuffed in a large slot, this card came secured in a plastic holder inside the box. The actual fan cover/shroud is nowhere near as good looking as the faux-carbon fiber look of the 600 series cards from EVGA, but it doesn't look bad either. This card is quite long, nearly the full width of an ATX motherboard. If you have any headers along the length of it, they won't be able to be used. Finally, the top mounted power connectors will be nice in case you need to use a hard drive slot directly in line with the card, but if you have a tight case clearance above the card then the cables will be bent pretty tight to clear.
Installation was standard PCIe, along with the power cables. There are adapters for two 6 pin PCIe to one 8 pin and two 4 pin Molex to one 6 pin PCIe. Hopefully if you have the prerequisite 500W PSU, then you don't even need these adapters. Two software items are a must to get the most out of EVGA Nvidia cards: GeForce Experience and EVGA's PrecisionX. The current driver is a beta release (GeForce 326.80 Driver), but it is required to play the Splinter Cell game bundled with most cards right now. PrecisionX will allow you to set a temperature limit (80C is the standard) and will intelligently overclock the card for you to reach max performance. My card liked to run itself up to 1189 MHz right out of the box.
-Performance-
Performance definitely lives up to reviews all over the internet. First things first, benchmark scores prove that this thing is a beast at DX10 games, easily topping 80 fps in 3DMark Vantage tests. 3DMark 11 was a little tougher, with full DX11 effects taking their toll. The combined score was definitely limited by the CPU.
3DMark 11 Scores
GTX 760 ---- vs. ---- GTX 650 Ti
Graphics: 8582 ------------ 5099
Physics : 7114 ------------ 6935
Combined: 7090 ------------ 4100
Avg. fps: 40 ------------ 24
3DMark Vantage Scores
GTX 760 ---- vs. ---- GTX 650 Ti
Graphics: 31292 ------------ 17757
Physics : 20141 ------------ 19129
Combined: 27487 ------------ 18081
Avg. fps: 92 ------------ 52
As far as games go, the new Splinter Cell game can be pretty much maxed out and hit 60 fps without a hitch. Similar for Bioshock Infinite and most other 2013 titles. Haven't had a chance to run Tomb Raider's benchmark, but I will update later if I find anything lacking.
-Heat, Noise, and Power-
I have previously used custom fan curves to avoid running my cards too hot, but this one seems designed to hold itself at 80C for gaming. The minimum fan speed is 1600 RPM (40%), and average during gaming was 60% with the auto fan curve. I'll probably bump it up just a bit to be safe. The idle temp is no concern, around 32C in a warm room. Depending on the level of auto overclock that your game needs, 80C was the limit at 1189 MHz. Because this blower type cooler has limited waste air inside the case, most of the heat is directly eliminated right out of the back.
Power consumption is much higher than the 650 Ti this replaced. With an overclocked i5, whole system usage was around 200W as measured by a UPS. Now, this card at max normal power causes a system draw of over 300W. However, idle power has hardly changed, as this card will underclock itself to 135 MHz. Noise isn't too bad considering the cooling setup, but it can hardly be heard over a few year old case fans.
-Conclusion-
I was on the fence about upgrading to a GTX 760 for two reasons: too many options and availability of cheap GTX 660 Ti's. This is definitely the right call; the GPU Boost 2.0 isn't a gimmick, it is just a really convenient way to overclock, and the 256 bit memory bus gives huge gains in some games. Overall, the card you choose is up to which cooling solution, clock speed, and memory configuration you want. But if you want rock solid 1080p gaming at good frame rates and maxed out settings, this is probably the best value card out there.

I don’t own any other desktop but the Mac Pro, so I’m no authority on PC gaming cards. But this card can play modern games on high settings, at a very usable frame rate – on a 6-year-old machine. That impresses me.
After a decade of kicking around laptops and then the Mac Pro, the last GPU I picked out of the crowd (i.e. not a Mac card) was a GeForce 4 TI-4200, so it had been awhile since I had looked at the charts. How convenient then, that the GTX 760 basically picked itself. Here’s how:
I went with the NVidia because Apple added, for some reason, several GTX series drivers to Mountain Lion/Mavericks. ATI cards seem to be in short supply and overpriced at the moment. The NVidia works OOTB and is (sorta) cheap. So NVidia.
You also need to consider power. When the Mac Pro shipped, the default graphics card used 30.7w of power at peak. A modern, high-end Radeon R9 290x uses 306w at peak, which is 10x more. I’m not an electrician but that sounds like it could be a problem. The Mac Pro case design is far more elegant than the standard, avalanche of cables that adorns the inside of your standard, plebian idiot-box. This makes it easy to look down on others, but more difficult to get power routed to your components. And if you want to put a new graphics card in a Mac Pro you need to be careful about power, i.e. no R9 290x (probably, but I’d be glad if I were wrong).
Thankfully, the Mac Pro power supply is so beefy (980w!) you still have some options without resorting to adding another power supply. You have 2 x mini 6-pin PCI-E power connectors on the motherboard which can serve 75w apiece, along with the 75w from a x16 PCI Express port for a total of 225w to work with without exceeding the theoretical load limits. I don’t want to live dangerously, so I wanted a card that stayed south of 200w. The GTX 760, while being very fast, is also a remarkably efficient card, which peaks at around 160w, well under the safety ceiling for power consumption. If I were to take another step up, to a GTX 770 for instance, I’ll have to deal with a nearly 250w peak, and another power supply if I don’t want to risk my mobo. The added cost and complexity of that install is not even close to worth it for 10% better FPS in a benchmark. For my computer, right now, this GTX 760 is perfect. Go check the charts, figuring in a safe power ceiling, this is THE card for stock install. That goes for any Mac Pro not shaped like a trash can.
As far as fan noise, I’m guessing it’s about average for a PC card, which makes it a positive racket compared to apple-spec hardware (an ATI HD 5770 for instance). The Pro has gone from nearly silent, to an audible whine with enough variance to make it hard to ignore. Basically, it makes the Mac Pro sound like a PC, this is easily my least favorite thing about it.
Bottom Line: this card made a 6-year-old desktop into a gaming machine that runs new games better than the latest and greatest consoles, for around $250. Plus you get Steam sales. If you already had a decent processor and a stack of ram sitting around, this would be worth looking into before you considered buying a PS4 or an Xbox ONE.
Other Mac Pro notes: I can’t vouch for any other model of this card working in any other Mac Pros, but the drivers are there so it could probably work, do some research on your specific card before pulling the trigger – overclocked cards will be using more power, so they could be a problem. Also, regarding heat, I chose this card with the stock cooling design, which directs heat out the back vents, just as the gods of thermal management have said it should be. I'm playing it safe.
A Mac, predictably, has some special considerations when installing a PC graphics card, the first being that it is a mac, and as such, this card isn’t built for you. Because Macs use a different startup protocol (EFI) than these cards are used to, you’ll loose your boot screens. This alone isn’t that big a deal, since not much is done with boot screens, but it can make boot camp a little more complicated if you are used to holding “option” to select the startup disc. That screen will not display any longer, so just use bootchamp.
The main reason someone would choose a PC GPU without EFI compatibility for their mac pro is because a roughly equivalent Mac native card is north of $600. If you’re truly disturbed by not having a boot screen, you can just buy an iPad mini with the difference and stare at that when you’re starting up. The Apple approved cards are truly overpriced, at every level, so it's wonderful you don't have to buy them anymore. You'll be fine without the boot screen, trust me.
The cables that come with this card won’t help a Mac Pro at all. So, to power the card you’ll need to buy cables. You need two of them, one you might already have (if you have a motherboard powered GPU already) and the other you definitely don’t have because it’s unusual.
The Mac Pro motherboard has 2 x MINI-PCIe 6-pin power connections and the GTX 760 needs a 6-pin PCIe and an 8-pin PCIe.
So you need:
mini-PCIe 6-pin to PCIe 6-pin
And a mini-PCIe 6-pin to PCIe 8-pin
Those cables will make this card work with a Mac Pro 2008, and probably any cheese-grater Mac Pro.
Have fun,

I was first surprised by the price of it and the clock specifications (saved at least 100 $), then it was the delivery time. I got it in less than 16H with free amazons prime delivery (the fastest thing i ever got from internet :D ).
Easy to install in my desk computer, took me half an our to figure out where to plug it ( i was relieved to see that the wires where there also)....I got an old mother board, with PCI-E 2.0 but it did well and no decrease in performance noticed....
Then i tested it with some games.... It was just awesome, smooth, faster, Its worth it! I can finally run my games at full graphic texture without any lagging or crash....
Didn't see any problem with a temperature rising, i played the Witcher 2 and my temperature was less than 51 °C. There was no noise, the fan is quite silent.
Now I’m waiting to test this card with the games: Watch dogs and dragon age Inquisition...
Anyways here's what I think.
Pros - fast, pretty quiet for the most part. Can get a little noisy under load. Runs all my games on ultra, bf4, far cry 4, dragon age: Inquisition, shadow of mordor and anything else I could throw at it. The Acx Dan design also does an amazing job keeping this best cool.
.Cons - I suppose my only concern was the hard time setting it up. But I guess that's a mobo gpu compatibility problem not a actual con of the card.
All in all this card rocks. Get it on sale and you are cooking with gas. I recommend this card to anyone looking for a first time build card or just upgrading. I love it!
Likes:
Totally worth the money and does what it needs to do. Great performance with good cooling.
As far as I know, Nvidia is quitting on 700 series except 760 so if you cannot afford 900 series atm but want decent GPU, here it is!
Playing recent games on high ~ ultra settings.
Dislikes:
The fan coil? whines(= high frequency noise) at intense usage on GPU. I have headset so it wan't the huge issue for me but it ruined my feeling of "fresh upgrade" just a bit :P
Not the dislike point but the card was much thicker than my previous GTX 560ti and took 2 gpu output slots at the back of my case. Wasn't the big issue for me as my case was mid tower with tons of space. (look at 4th image on this card if you can't understand what I mean)
Summary : Grab if its on sale. (incoming Christmas!) At regular price?? :S i donno....
Really pleased with this purchase.
Not really related to the card itself but UPS delayed my order by six days for no reason. The parcel simply kept not making it to the truck for delivery, or would get sent back to the warehouse because there were too many other parcels to deliver on that day. This would have been remedied easily enough had I been able to go pick it up myself (you know, do UPS's job for them). However, because until they've made a delivery attempt, knocking at my door with the parcel, I was unable to go and get it myself. It took close to 10 phone calls between December 24th and December 30th (the day it was delivered due to several calls that final day) to finally get them to go out of their way to ensure it was delivered. I will not be ordering through Amazon anymore if I can find an alternative to getting a product without having to deal with UPS in any way, shape, or form.
