Im not really a slow cooker pro, so I was reading through reviews to try to decide which to get and finally ended up with this one and I have to say that I love it. My sister and I decided we wanted to try making some things in the slow cooker to save time cooking and try out new recipes. I think this does a great job, the controls are easy to use and the probe option to check the temperature of meat youre coking is fantastic. It makes everything so easy and I really dont think you can mess it up using this slow cooker. I know there are a lot of reviews from people that talk about some cookers cooking to fast or hot even on low options, but I havent had an issue with that yet. Happy cooking!

**Update 2/26/15 wow, I cannot believe I have had this for 5 years already. It is holding up really great! the ceramic dish has had no issues, but I do have some marks/scratches on it from using a spoon to mix something or when people scrape out the last of some queso dip. Overall this has been my trusty slow cooker and is a perfect size for pretty much anything I do!

After looking all over at slow cookers I found the perfect cooker for a family of 2. This cooker is loaded with nice features like digital settings, locking top for security when carrying and a removable pot for easy cleaning plus you can store your leftovers in the refrigerator while still in the ceramic pot. The 5 quart size is just the right size for a small family (a 4 quart is too small and a 6 quart is too large). The cooker is large enough hold a full chicken or a roast wit vegetables without being so large you have trouble finding a place to set it on your counter. Versatility is a good way to describe this cooker. It is able to make anything from soups to complete dinners and the clean up is very easy. Just remove the pot and wash, the removable ceramic pot cleans up with little effort. I have found no faults with this cooker and a lot of pluses including the digital dial for accurate cooking times. I think you will agree with me, this is a must have if your looking for the perfect slow cooker.

I bought this in May 2011 and by mid February 2012, I came home to a meal that was uncooked. It had partially cooked the food, and then the heating element apparently stopped working. I thought maybe we had a power surge or something, and so I restarted it, but the crock never heated up. All the electronic settings were working, so I know the power was getting to it, but it would not heat up. I rarely used this, 1-2 times a month, but not really at all during the summer. So, this has probably only been used up to 15 times. I had my old slow cooker for many years with no problems and only got a new one when the handle on the lid got broken. Now I wish I still had the old one. This is still under the 1 year warranty, so I'm going to contact them, but of course they are only open M-F from 8-4:30, so I have to find time to make a lengthy call while at work.

The Hamilton Beach unit is bulky and as described before by others--a real pain when trying to clamp down the glass lid.Hamilton Beach consulted with the United Torturers Association before designing this slow cooker's lid and -- mangled, burned fingers are the result!!No bird Brain management ever tried this out before marketing it!! Proof is --it is no longer produced this way in other models!

Also --this is a BIG BIG cooker-HAS - HAS- TO BE FILLED ALMOST TO THE TOP FOR IT TO WORK!THAT MEANS---small meals can not be done!!THIS MODEL IS NOT FOR 1,2, OR 3 PEOPLE unless you eat big time meals!!!Result --sold for 1/2 the price in the paper, the people who bought it have a LARGE FAMILY!

The programing--? Ha! You can do the same with a basic dial cooker , there is no benefit to the "programing" None!!Its a cheap Cheap Digital- Cheap unit as in Cheap!!If you did not recognize the above --read this-- you will be better off with a plain old dial unit!
There is no benefit to the digital cooker!!If you have a large family , or love fat city, this slow cooker will perform well. If you have 2 or less people --not recommended as this is a big big goose cooker!!
