The commuter series is definitely more fragile than the defender series, but it still protects your phone well. It is much slimmer than the defender series. I love that my phone can still fit in my pocket with this case on. I am on my second commuter series case, but the first one had good cause to break. We have an unfinished basement, and as I turned to close the basement door I dropped my phone. It fell so "perfectly" that it missed every step landing charging end down and flopping over screen faced down. I thought for sure with this "little" case my phone was doomed. The fall racked the thin piece of plastic that goes along the charging port portion of the plastic outer shell and there was zero damage to my phone itself. No shattered screen, no shatter inner bulb, etc. I'm quite clumsy. Especially when it comes to my phone, and I assure you the commuter series can withstand being dropped in "typical" ways on a fairly regular basis. If you run the risk of dropping your phone long distances this is not the case for you; I would recommend the defender series. My dad dropped a phone in an otterbox defender series case while up on scaffolding, and the case and the phone both survived. I have purchased soley Otterbox brand phone cases for my phones for years now. As far as I'm concerned Otterbox is the only brand I trust to protect my cellphone.

Yet another great OtterBox Commuter Case!

I am responsible for purchasing mobile phones and accessories for our employees. We replace all of our employees' phones and accessories every two years. I was first introduced to the OtterBox Commuter product by our Sprint person around 2011. I had reservations about using OtterBox Commuter cases due to the high cost, but gave them a try based on his recommendation.

My first OtterBox Commuter fell out of vehicle at a gas station, landed screen facing up, and was driven over by another vehicle as I watched. The OtterBox Commuter case had a few gouges from contact with concrete, but no other cracks or damage. To my surprise, the phone (HTC EVO 3D) was completely unharmed and the screen worked perfectly. I continued to use that handset and case until our next device upgrade. I have continued to buy OtterBox Commuter products for each generation of handsets since then (Samsung Galaxy S3, Galaxy S5, and now Galaxy S7) and have had no problems receiving warranty replacements for a few cases that have failed over the years.

This OtterBox case for Samsung Galaxy S7 was received as expected. Same durable construction that we have come to expect. It was unclear if this OtterBox Commuter would include a screen protector due to conflicting information in the Amazon listing. Each OtterBox Commuter for S7 that we received DID include screen protector, but we were not satisfied with appearance after multiple attempts to apply the protectors to the handsets. The edges would not lay flat against the left/right edges of the phone or would raise after a few days. This appears to be a design issue, so I did not bother requesting a warranty replacement. Instead, we purchased the ArmorSuit MilitaryShield Samsung Galaxy S7 Screen Protector at $8 each which was much easier to apply and has not raised on the edges.

If we had paid retail price of $35 for this item and the item was advertised with a screen protector, I would have rated 4/5 stars due to the screen protector design issue. I did not deduct a star from the OtterBox rating since part of the listing DID say that a screen protector was not included, and we could easily justify the cost of a separate screen protector purchase at the discounted $13 we paid for each of these cases.

Perfect Protection for the Galaxy S7

I had an Otterbox Commuter case for my Galaxy S5 for years and it never failed me over the many, falls, drops and other mishaps I put it through. I recently retired my S5 and upgraded to the S7 and I bought another Commuter without hesitation. Like the last one, the 2 layer case slips over easily and fits like a glove without adding too much bulk to the phone itself. The ports are protected with folding rubber flaps, the camera and speaker are well protected but perfectly exposed and the buttons are easy to find and are clicky when pressed. There’s also a thick, protruding ridge to protect the screen when laying the phone face down.
Speaking of the screen, there’s also an screen protector included. It’s the peel away film type but because of the S7’s round edges on its screen, it’s the only type that fits and this one fits pretty well. If you line it up just right, there’s only the slightest lift near the edge. It covers almost all the screen to the edge where the case meets and that’s all that really matters. It’s just another layer of protection and it works well enough.
This is by far my favorite line of case and series by Otterbox. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it or change it I say. As long as Otterbox makes them, I’ll buy them for every future phone I buy. Phones these days are expensive making cases like this practically essential. I wouldn’t dare go without one. Highly recommended.

It has a nice bulk to it that doesn't make it too bulky, keeping it slim, but still offering a good amount of protection. I like the feel of it, how the soft part of the case isn't too soft and instead it is nice and sturdy. The hard part of the case is nice and smooth but still has texture to give grip. The case is a perfect fit for the phone--hugging the phone tightly. Nice and sturdy case. The box had the screen protector included as well, even though the description on Amazon said no screen protector, so it was a nice surprise. But the screen protector is a little sticky after applying it, but not too bad. The only thing is that since the case is so tight on the phone, using other screen protectors could be difficult if the screen protector spans the whole front of the phone--as the case could lift up the screen protector edges since it is such a tight fit. But having this tight fit is definitely nice and feels secure.

I haven't owned an Otterbox case in years and that was a commuter series like this for a Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Just like that case, this is a quality product and will no doubt protect as well as my previous case did. However, it is more bulky than most due to its 2-layer construction. Being as I no longer work in environments that require that much protection from drops, bumps, etc. on a regular basis I opted for something more low profile. Having gone from a Samsung Galaxy S5 to an S7, I quickly preferred the more compact form factor of my new phone while still having the same size screen at 5.1", so going to a case that would completely negate that seemed pointless (in case you're wondering I don't have small hands but nor are they overly large). Compared to most modern phones with >6" screens such as the S10/+, iPhone 11, and all the XL versions of phones out there, an S7 will still be smaller with this case on, but again that is my preference.

3.5 stars, 4 if the price was closer to the $20-25 mark.
Pros: Quality feel and build
Cons: Price is slightly high for an ageing phone, and more bulky than I would prefer; easily adds 1.5-2mm around the entire phone if I had to guess

Bottom line: This is no doubt a quality case (I cannot speak to the screen protector film as I have used tempered glass for years until now), it comes with a price that is reasonable for a NEW product, but considering this phone is now 3+ generations old anything more than $30 seems like a high price.
