Pixel went out in 9 months and now I have a line vertical and horizontal across the screen...the 800 number on the owners manual for warranty service took me to a health care dept that wanted to give me a free lifeline an when I declined, offered a free Caribbean cruise with no option to decline so it hung up...when I got the number off the website, I was told they had no record of my registration and since I won it thru a radio contest and had no receipt I was sol...add Philips to the Toshiba list of "I'll NEVER buy another product from them

The Big "C" with 6 letters in its name has this 40" HDTV for $350. It's a steal! Clean design, semi-matte display, thin bezel, no goofy and distracting logos or reflective chrome or silver strips like some HDTV's have, it's easy to use, and super easy to update firmware with a USB flash drive. Picture quality is excellent and the other reviewer should realize that there's barely any HDTV's out there below $500 that I know of which have a true 120Hz refresh rate. I'm watching the Winter Olympics right now and motion is terrific- and that's after I turned off all of the motion gimmick settings. This is not a "Smart" HDTV as there is no built-in WiFi, but my Blu-Ray player already has that. This set has 3 HDMI inputs, component input, and VGA input. The digital output is coaxial instead of optical (if you hook it up to a sound bar, your sound bar might not have a coaxial digital input). It has lots of picture settings and if you're looking for a great set for a low price, here it is. No dead pixels and screen uniformity is terrific! The Olympics and Blu-Rays look awesome. I use this in my bedroom and it is perfect! If you're looking for a great picture, easy to use HDTV with a clean design, snag this baby!

Ok I really like Philips, and some may think this is unfair. The TV only has an on off button on the bottom right. NO channel buttons, no sound buttons. It is all done on the remote. Also the back button on the remote does not work.

Misplace the remote and you better have a smart tablet/phone WITH an IR Blaster. This might sound like a little thing, but if you can not find, or your remote breaks count on some frustration.

My wife uses the TV and she is happy with it. The picture is good, but we both grew up with black and white long ago so any HD TV looks good to us.

I am just shocked, when I looked for a TV I wanted a smart TV. The higher priced TV's where all $100 more so I just bought a Sony smart DVD which worked out fine, I have a Sony smart DVD at every TV and they stream from my media server just fine.

So be aware not all TVs have control buttons on them any more. I remember when I was the remote "jr please change the channel". Now if I lose the little plastic remote I can't say "can someone change the channel for me", well I can my son has an app. My Galaxy S3 does not, and I usually don't have my tablet by the TV.

Now when I look at TVs in the store I need to look for the control buttons. Who wants a TV stuck on one channel and sound level till I find where the TV remote was put, or go downstairs to get my tablet, that really defeats the purpose of a remote. And of course I spent a lot of time looking with my son to find the remote, smart young man, he tried his tablet.

I was totally shocked, no control buttons, really ? ( I have an old Sony TV that the IR port died, thankfully it has buttons. )

I do not know if both these remotes will work but here are the links if someone needs them.

    UPDATE 04/03/2015: ONE YEAR LATER
I do not have any universal remotes, and we are very careful with the remote. I can only say the Samsung android remote works, so I would think any universal remote would work. While the picture is great and the TV has had no trouble, changing channels is weird. If you enter 2 it goes to 2.0 not 2.1, so you have to go up to 2.1 to see something. All my other TVs when you type a 2 they go to 2.1 automatically, and you have to wait for 2.0 to display before you have to go up. Overall the TV is a 2 star. An upgraded bios to fix the channel problem would bring it up to a 3 1/2. I would NEVER buy this TV again at any price. With 4 flat screens TVs this is in last place. The JVC with Roku is my pick, even with the motherboard that was replaced during the first year. Costco gives you a second year of coverage free, I always buy at Costco for that extra year.

Overall the TV is really good, except the on/off switch only pulls 1 1/2 star off and it loses another 1 1/2 star to the very weird channel changing, which is very annoying. I would not buy this TV ever again.

Contrary to the knuckle heads review that thinks the 60Hz input voltage frequency is the same at the video input freq. this is a very nice 120 Hz 1080p 40in TV. I picked mine up for $350 @ Costco and haven’t looked back. Makes my DIRECTV HD channels and Blu-ray’s pop, audio could be better but this is typical in any of these with the speakers firing out the bottom. So with that I only give it a 4 out of 5 stars.
