If you are looking to bring a strong WiFi signal into an area of your house with a weak signal, this product is just what you need. It comes with a bonus Ethernet port should you want to hardwire critical hardware needing reliable Internet streaming such as your Apple TV, DMA, or Gaming console. While the product is awesome, setup is tricky and requires a tech savvy person to get it right. The critical steps are the initial configuration of the firmware, and the subsequent TCP/IP setup so you can access, modify, reload the firmware config file, and reboot the device using your browser should you need to. The rest is as simple as ABC. The Utility allows you to track your PLA's performance, name your PL network, and other fun stuff that a techwonk will enjoy. All in all, a great value for money, and a device that will flood WiFi starved areas of your house with a strong reliable WiFi signal. I recommend this product. Note that you need a source PLA to go with this....and it is advisable to stay with the same vendor for all the PLA devices on your PL network. Good Luck !!

IMPORTANT UPDATE (4/23/12): The unit worked flawlessly for 4 days. On Day5, the unit disappeared from the tracking SW utility. Upon checking up on why this was so, I noticed that the unit was dead. All the LED's were off - even as the switch was in the "on" position. Tried multiple outlets - no sign of life in the unit. Packed it up and shipped it back to AMAZON.com today. Hoping this was a case of a bad piece, I ordered a replacement unit rather than ask for a full refund. AMAZON.com is Amazing as usual & my replacement unit has already shipped. Returning this item was a breeze (you need to keep the original packaging). Lets see if this is a case of a bad unit - or a quality issue across the board.

UPDATE (5/9/12): Hooked up the new unit. Works beautifully. Its been on for ~ 10 days now, and all indicator lights working fine. The original unit had weak LED lights to begin with-indicates that the original unit was a bad piece.

The technology in this unit is fundamentally sound. Speed tests have great results for Upload & Dnload speeds - matched to numbers I get when hardwired directly to the Router.

WiFi signal in the room is now at full strength. Prior to this units installation, I was hard pressed to get a 30% signal.

UPDATE 7/13/2012: The 2nd unit also died. No signal. I am returning it to Amazon.com. This time I'm not asking for a replacement unit. I'm done with this product from this vendor. BUYER BEWARE !!!!! THIS PRODUCT From TRENDLink IS AN ABSOLUTE PIECE OF JUNK -- DO NOT BUY !!!!!!!

If you want to use the advanced features of the AP, the documentation is very light. The average user would be lost. My AP is installed about 85 feet from the Powerline Ethernet connect to the router and the maximum speed is only of the wireless is only 60mb and has a red light indicating good connection. I only get a green light, best connection, when the AP is less than 25 feet. I suspect the problem is that the circuit the AP is on is located on the opposite side of the buss in the power pannel then the Powerline Ethernet is connected to.

I would not buy this product again. The wireless is simply not reliable. Laptops frequently lose connectivity for no apparent reason then regain a strong signal a couple of minutes later. This happen abut every 15 minutes. The device is only 10 feet away in an open room. Ipads and cell phones, while obtaining what appears to be a strong signal, have virtually no throughput. The wired connection is also very slow, when streaming video there are lots of buffering moments that I don't have when streaming directly from my router. Thbis device certainly does not do what the advertisement said it would do.

Design seemed good, documentation was confusing, tech support was excellent, one item was DOA, second item died after 24 hours. Reliability was deemed too uncertain for the remotely supported location. Replaced these items with wired units and returned the TrendNet units to Amazon.

Not new to Powerline adapters. Purchased this pair to replace failing older Powerline adapters.
One unit is placed about 250' from the second unit one in a metal building the other in the house
double benifit with the Wi-Fi which I did not have before(works great with TV) an increase from 2-7
mps on the old to 15+ mps with the new. Be sure to go to the manufacturer web site for the full
user manual more detailed than the one shipped with the unit.

I had been using a cable modem/wifi solution from a leading WiFi manufacturer. Signal strength and speeds have always lacked, to put it nicely.

I decided to try this, and am VERY glad I did.

If you have a larger home (the sky's the limit, actually), this is your answer. Get a main unit, plug it into the wall, then plug in as many of these WiFi AP's as you want. You can load up every room in your house with perfect signal, if that's what you want.

But I can tell you that the range and speed with just one AP will cover most larger homes (2500 to 4000 square feet) very well.
