Prior to hooking the system up I had a signal of -105 to -115 dBm in my home - that's a dead zone (occasionally I would get -98 dBm). I hooked the outside antenna up right on top of my tv antenna and routed the cable via the same route as out tv connections. Then I hooked up the amp and inside antenna and placed it in my kitchen facing the mass of my interior. We live in a 1930s cape code with plaster walls and the kitchen is an outer wall so I expecting to get reception in the kitchen and adjoining living room only which is all open space.
I turned it on and checked the signal - my phone read -78 dBm in the living room and if I went in the kitchen and held the phone about 3-4 feet from the transmitting antenna it dropped to -60 dBm!! I can't even get that signal on my phone unless I am standing next to a tower around here. Even better is that the signal reached upstairs to improve my son's phone reception too and our 3g modem. It has also penetrated the plaster to reached to the ground floor bedroom and bath to give enough signal ( in the -90s) for keeping a call! So even in the farthest areas I can now talk which I previously had to go outside to do!!
Additionally, I have a program on my phone that tells me what tower I am connected to and before the install it constantly jumped towers. Now I am locked on to a single tower which means no dropped calls and a steady internet :) Couldn't be happier!!
To be fair, after further research of other feedback everyone says this unit provides no more bars than the best you can get off the top of your house but, despite I get 2 bars out doors, the fact I bought the unit good for around 10,000sqf to cover my 2,000sqf home supposidely good for homes with almost no reception, I was disappointed but others say I need to try multiple locations around my rough line so I'll continue this week to see if I can find a better spot. The dissapointing part is this is supposed to amplify poor out door signals and I over bought to get the best.
End result for now (I'll update if things change) without it on, I get 1-2 bars. With it on and 5' feet from the indoor unit, my cell phone fluctuates between 0-2 bars back and forth / on and off. No difference seen as of now but I'll give it 3 stars to be fair till I atleast try some other alternatives. I also read to trash the CAT6 cable it came with because it's too thinly insulated and get a thicker insulated CAT6 so I'll be trying that hoping that works but more money, more money, more money. The kit should work out of the box so the proper cable should be provided if it's truly not suffiecient.
Nothing more to add for now but will update when I try a few other options.
