Experienced photographers optimize their camera settings to match the situation. The COOLPIX S6800 does that work for you. With 18 Scene Modes, including Beach, Snow, Night Portrait, Sunset and more, it's easy to match the moment to a Scene Mode. You can even get creative and use Scene Modes to alter ordinary shots. Or, select Scene Auto Selector and let the camera choose the best mode for your situation.
Superior low-light performance
High-performance CMOS image sensor lets you shoot without a flash
Imagine being able to shoot without a flash at weddings, concerts, parties—anywhere your flash normally fires. You won't have to interrupt a moment to capture it, and your photos will look more natural and true to your memory. The COOLPIX S6800 performs so well in low light situations that, in most cases, using the flash is optional. Of course, when the lighting is extremely poor and you need a flash, it'll be there.

This reconditioned version gives me incredible value for the dollar, and it looks same as brand new to me. Since I carry it constantly while traveling, ready for that sudden photo op, I know the chance of loss or damage is high, but at this price point I am not going to overly worry about it. I would worry more about carrying my more expensive IPhone and losing that!
UPDATE 4-23-15: After several months of traveling through South America and using this camera daily, I am still happy with it, and have great quality photos. But I have discovered that the shutter lag is significant, and my photos of dancers is often hot or miss. If I turn off the flash, I get at least a couple hundred shots on a single battery charge. The more photo viewing you do, the quicker the battery discharges. I bought an extra battery to switch out if necessary, but I haven't had to use it yet!
1 very slow to take pictures even on the auto settings. The camera must be thinking for a bit after you push the button. It means you can really only take one picture every 10 seconds. That is not an issue for many things, but I take pictures of wildlife and generally you want to take a number of them and see what it best.
2. They changed the modes that you can set the camera to. It is more complex and less helpful. I really just want a mode where I can turn off the flash. I end up using Night landscape for that but it kicks in a bunch of processing that slows the camera down more.
I would really like it to be faster but for the price it takes great photos.
I purchased this camera to replace my Casio Exilim that had died after many years and to compliment my larger Cannon PowerShot S2. The Nikon CoolPix is small enough to fit in your hand so you don't scream tourist with a larger camera. The Nikon CoolPix is also a upgrade because of the many added features. Photo editing & zoom editing can now be done easily right on the camera and I don't have to wait until I get home to do it.
Bottom line, really good pictures & easy to use! I highly recommend this camera.
Very small, slick camera. Hard to hold onto without dropping - so I always keep my hand in the wrist strap. That's not my major complaint though. The lens cover on this camera is VERY thin and fragile and if you're not careful when putting it into a case, one piece of it will slide open. It's only a matter of time before I get the dreaded lens error.
Macro shots are out of focus 80% of the time; outdoor shots are decent, true-to-color. All the photos looked sharp on the small 3" LCD screen, but when uploaded to the computer they weren't so sharp. This camera is the best at taking videos. Highly impressed with the movie capability but that's basically the only thing this camera is great at doing.
Also, removing the SDHC card is very tricky - it's near the hinge on the battery compartment and unless you have long nails, it's hard to get a grasp on it - so if you use a card reader to remove pictures from the SDHC card to your computer, this could be an issue for you.
Sadly, this camera isn't up to Nikon's usual high standards.
NOTE: I ended up returning this camera. I treat my cameras gently but within 2 days of writing this review, the lens cover started sticking open on one side.
