Customers like the image quality of the digital camera. They mention that it's a travel and tough camera with very good to excellent image quality. They say that the underwater pictures they took were fantastic, and that the Raw gives them much higher resolution photos than a camera shooting JPEG. Customers are also impressed with the shutter speed, burst speed, screen size and clarity, saying that it does a really good job with basic underwater photography. They also appreciate the components inside the camera, saying it just looks too nice. Customers say that it makes it easy to take pictures of the night sky and lights without a tripod, and can take snapshots then capture video without switching modes. They are also happy with the Panorama mode, saying the camera is picky about the mode.

Customers are mixed about the performance of the digital camera. Some mention it's got a pretty fast shutter speed (up to 1/2000) in decent light, and with the nice fast power-on-to-first-picture time, GPS acquisition reasonably fast. However, others say it would pick ridiculously slow shutter speeds, the microscope mode is good fun, and the video is very weak in this model. Great Camera Except For Bluish Spot In Center Of Photos When Using The Zoom
I had an Olympus Stylus 410, one of the original "tough" cameras, and was really happy with it. But, it was almost 15 years old and the newer line of Olympus "tough" cameras looked so more advanced, I thought I would upgrade. After spending hours reading customer and professional reviews, it seemed like the Olympus TG-4 was the clear choice for the type of compact digital camera that was waterproof, dust proof and shock resistant that I was looking for.My original impressions of the camera and the photo quality was really high. The underwater photos (first photo) were really so good it was almost hard to believe how good they were. And, the microscope settings for taking photos of plants and small animals (second photo) were really just amazing. And, that was using default settings that did not get the very best that the camera could do. All in all, I would have rated the camera 5 stars and highly recommended it, if not for a problem that started to appear. After a few hundred photos, I started to notice a perfectly round, fuzzy edged spot right in the center of the view finder that had a more blue or purple cast to the color (third and fourth photos), almost like the CCD's were reading a different color value in that part of the lens. I looked at comparison photos and the resolution and brightness looked the same within the spot and in the surrounding photo, it was just the color that was off. The spot was most noticeable when using the optical zoom past the 3X range and more so with the digital zoom. The size of the spot would also increase a bit as the zoom level was increased. I thoroughly cleaned both the lens cover and the display and that did not help. So, I finally called Olympus. What I got after talking with three different people was it was a known issue with the camera and was a function of the compact nature of the lens system. In other words, they were telling me I would just have to live with it. They tried telling me that the issue was was lens flare, even though I kept telling them that I have been using cameras of many types over the last 40 years and it was not lens flare. I know what lens flare looks like and have used it for great creative effect or cursed it over the years (fifth and sixth photos showing actual lens flare). Bottom line, they were not willing to listen to me or look at any example photos that I was more than willing to send them.Good thing I bought the camera through Amazon!!! I contact Amazon and they were more then helpful. They looked at the example photos that I had and talked with me for a few minutes and sent me a new camera. Amazon ROCKS!!!I am probably writing this review a bit too soon, since I have not use the new camera yet to see if the same issue occurs, but I am just really glad that Amazon stood behind their own warranty and customer service guaranties. In the end, many of the features of this camera put it in the 5 star catagory, but the bluish spot that shows up on some of the photos moves more in the 2 or 3 star range.
