Update (5/19/17): Regarding the other review about a "chunk" sound every 5 seconds -- I personally didn't notice any sounds out of the ordinary at all. My computer (which is a full tower) sits on the ground next to my desk, only a couple feet away from my ears and I didn't notice anything. However if I put my ear right up against my computer and listen very carefully I can hear a quiet "tink" sound every ~5 sec. or so, but this is very negligible (and I'm not even entirely sure if it is the new 6 TB drive, opening my case to confirm would be too much of a pain at this point).

This not first time I purchased this Type of hard drive and it's capacity, in all the years that I have been building and fixing up old computers, I had one of these hard drives go bad on me, after contacting WD on the phone and with ease mind you and surprised me, but I explained what happened and they directed me to the top data recovery companies they use. The drive was just about full with Videos and pictures, (back up, back up always back up) well I did not listen o my own preaching's anyway after a few weeks I was contacted and told that it was un-recoverable at this point it was sent directly to WD and within a week I received a brand new drive no phone call no e-mail, I just got knock on the door and the UPS driver handed me a box with the new drive.
I was pleasantly surprised and while I lost a lot with the dead drive, I now had a replacement with no questions asked and I would whole hardly recommend these WD hard dives to anyone, yes they are a bit on the high price end, but I can say that I tend to run my PC 24/7/365 and all my drives are WD and with a variety of size capacity's. most of them are all either back ups of back ups or used for running video, graphics apps on and gaming as well. You will always get a bad drive here and there, regardless of manufacture and I have had noting but good reliable experiences with all my 9 hard drives from WD,
While these drives are only 7200 rpm, they do get the job done the only other hard drives that are faster, are the velocity Raptor at 10000 rpm and SSD drives, while SSD drives are the fastest for boot up and running apps, the price point for high capacity much to high, and even those that are 1TB or less are still fairly high priced compared to the price point of a 6TB Hard Drive, yes you can buy a few smaller capacity SSD drives and set up a raid array but you would end up spending almost the same amount if not more to get the same capacity.
To get 6TB of capacity with SSD drives in a raid array and this is just an example here, a 1TB SSD is $289.00 x 3 = $867.00 compared to $299.00 for one 6TB WD HHD, now if you were to do the same $299.00 x 3 = $897.00 and you now have 18TB for just about the same price point and you can still set up a raid array. I know this not typical of every SSD manufacture and in time the prices will drop on SSD's and with SSD drives it is recommended to leave at least 40GB free all times to help it last longer and you do not have to Defrag an SSD and you should never do it.
In closing I am for the time being sticking with standard HHD's and will continue to use WD HHD's.
Note: new drive is a WD Black 6TB and my old is a 5 years old Seagate Barracuda 2TB.
Bother than the noise I like the drive. It works, and while not super fast (still a hard drive not a SSD) it is a definite noticable improvement over my old drive. It's just amazing how loud this thing is.
