Updated: 04/04/2017. Thanks to CZUR, I had another chance to test the device after they released the Mac version software. I am happy to say that both the hardware and software have great improvement.First, I would like to clarify the issue with abrupt exit of the software during my previous test. It appears that the Czur windows application can't work in Parallel virtual machine. This has been confirmed by Czur tech support. Now they have Mac software, this issue no longer exist.Second, the issue with scanning glossy paper has also been greatly improved after they offered two LED lights and the proper instructions of using them. As long as you turn of the LED lights on the main device, by using the two stand alone LED lights. The quality of scanned glossy paper actually is pretty awesome. Scanning regular book with these two LED lights also have improved quality.Third, the quality of the LCD in the machine has also improved, I no longer see any vertical lines on the LCD. Overall, it's a solid build machine with small foot print. The Mac software of course still has bugs, I have offered suggestion for improvement. Hope you guys will enjoy the product, and check out the new images I uploaded with annotation._______________________It’s a great idea to have a product like this. I wish some of my books could be converted to PDF files by using this product. It is promising from what I saw on YouTube. So I ordered one from Amazon to test it. Unfortunately, both the hardware and software are half finished and can’t live up to its promise.Hardware - Cons:1. The device’s WiFi mode does not support 5G Hz wireless band, it only supports the 2.4G Hz band. The device recognizes and displays the 5G band network on its mini LCD screen, which makes me think it supports 5G network. However, it was only able to connect to the 2.4G network after several failures on the 5G network.2. The onboard TFT screen is cheap, you can clearly see several vertical lines on the screen, which is annoying.3. No WiFi mode for PC connection. To use the PC mode, you must connect the device using a USB cable. To scan a book, you really need the PC software rather than the Czur Cloud app.4. You can’t scan too fast. In the wifi mode, once you click “scan”, you have to wait for the images to be saved/uploaded first with wifi LED light blinking blue. Once the light become steadily green, you can scan the next one.5. There is no progress indicator on the device LCD screen or the Czur Cloud app. So sometimes after clicking the “scan” button, you don’t know whether the scan is successful or not until you confirm it on the Czur Cloud app.6. You need to wear some thumb cover to let the device know that those are actually thumbs, and should be removed after scanning.7. The Zoom In and Zoom Out button is designed for presentation mode only. In other words, the camera lens can’t be Zoomed In/Out during the Scan mode. You may not want to, but it is confusing.Software – Cons:1. The software is buggy. To use the PC software, I connected the device by using the USB cable. However, I was never able to start scanning successfully. As soon as I clicked “scan”, a black window splashed for a second then the whole software abruptly exited. I tried multiple times, the same problem persists. So I was not able to scan a book at all.2. The Czur Cloud app on iPhone does not support “delete” function. You can only delete scanned documents by logging into the Cloud web, the “delete” function is not obvious or intuitive on the Cloud web either.3. The device only supports the Czur Cloud service. And the Czur Cloud app does not integrate with other popular cloud services such Dropbox or iCloud or anything else.4. The built-in OCR function is a joke.5. The device is not that smart. It scans better when the document has a full page white background, otherwise it distorts things or cut things/edges – sometimes very bad (see the images I uploaded.)6. The PC software only supports PC. In other words, the powerful software they developed is designed for Windows only. The Czur Cloud app works on mobile devices such as iPhone and iPad, but it is really only optimized for phones. The Czur Cloud app on iPhone offers limited functions.7. It captures files in jpg format, not PDF unless you use the PC software.Pros: The idea is good, it looks good.Summary: The product definitely needs to be improved. Currently it can’t compete with the traditional two-side scanner in terms of speed, quality and price. A fixed camera with proper lighting can capture the same images as the device does. You simply need a better image processing software to handle those images. Adobe Acrobat can do the job well.

5.0 out of 5 stars ... about one month now--And we have found it very easy and fast to use
Reviewed in the United States on March 21, 2018
My wife and I have used the ET16Plus for about one month now--And we have found it very easy and fast to use.

My wife scans lots of foreign language books for reference and used to use a flat bed scanner (that has a nice feature that allows books to scan only open 1/2 way--But the flat bed scanner light and mechanism would wear out after a year or two). The CZUR used LEDs (plus 3x LED lasers) and pure electronics to take a picture for scanning--Hopefully, this will last a very long time.

Much faster than using the flat bed scanner and no flipping the whole book to scan each page. The side light option is very nice for scanning glossy pages (turn off overhead LEDs).

Software can be installed from CD or downloaded from CZUR's website (which I did, Windows 10 laptop did not have a CD Drive).

Post processing (doing OCR and combining to PDF) was very simple, easy, and fast. Have done OCR for both Chinese and English--Pretty accurate (a lot depends on image quality of source documents). I have attached both a color glossy and black&white scanned documents at the end of the review. They were simple scans and I did not take any extra care or reshoot scans (black text on dark background near corners of page can be difficult to capture cleanly unless you play around with settings).

Using the software takes a bit of experimenting and understanding how it was intended to be used. For scanning, You need to select scanning (can also be used as a camera to project on a digital protector for lecture materials), then you will be taken to the post processing screen. Then select Scan. On the scan page, you need to (upper left) setup the destination directory. Upper right choose Color/B&W/etc. for your scans. Then single page or facing pages. Now you can scan (I use the supplied foot pedal).

Once you are done scanning (if you make a mistake, just write down the one or two image numbers to delete) and continue scanning)., close the scan window and you will be taken back to the post processing screen. On this screen (for example), upper right "select all" images to process, hit Export and PDF+OCR) and fill in the file name (note, the PDF document does not end up in the Image directory--but up a couple levels).

And it will take a minute or two to process a 20 page B&W document into your PDF+OCR.

If you made a scan mistake, on the post processing screen, you can deselect your mistakes, or select the bad image and use the delete/other editing options to fix the mistakes.

Note that as you go back and forth between screens, you will probably get a warning that some temporary data will be erased--So far, I have not found any downside to this message.

If you scanned your data in one session (and turned off computer before post-processing), you have to open the program/scanner/scanner (scanning screen) and select the working directory (it will tell you there is existing data--just accept)--Then (without scanning) you can go back to the export screen and do your post processing as normal (or you can continue scanning if you did not complete).

I am still learning about the software--But one big warning... If you have loose leaf binders to scan. Take the pages out of the binder and scan as single pages. If you try to scan "facing pages"--The software gets "confused" and does a very poor job of separating the left and right pages (the lack of solid binding seems to cause problems with loose leaf scanning). Just scan one page at a time works very well and is probably faster than trying to scan facing loose leaf pages.

Unfortunately, Amazon does not let me post PDF+OCR, so I will post a few examples of scanned pages (glossy, single page B&W, and B&W two facing pages single scan).
