This camera is everything you need. Most, if not all, of the T5i/SL1 features are there. I got the 18-55mm lens and EX90 flash package for almost half the price of the SL1. The 18-55 STM lens covers nice range for general use. The EX90 flash is very compact. I plan to share it between the EOS-M and my 5D3 since that camera doesn't have a flash, so its a nice 'freebie'.
It sure beats lugging around my 5D3 around and it takes awesome pictures! Well, almost as awesome as the 5D3, but better than my 5D. I ordered the EF mount adapter and it works great with several of my L lenses, which look superb.
I highly recommend this as a back-up camera or a vacation camera for the serious photographer. I predict this will become a highly sought after camera after they all sell out. There is nothing else like it, and it seems it was misunderstood or under marketed, or both.
Lens selection is one of the keys for Canon vs other ML systems.
Later review with one star downgrade. This camera was bought as a back up for my larger camera in case my larger camera dies. The F stop control is electronicly adjusted. It is somewhat of a hassle to change. I tend to leave the electronic controls alone as they are always more difficult to adjust than a manually operated camera. The most irritating thing about the M is that framing a shot is difficult with the view screen when there is a lot of light coming behind the camera. Light reflects off the view screen and the image is difficult to see. I am used to a viewfinder and also a large format camera with a shade cloth. Good imagry comes from being able to see what your shooting with a great deal of detail.
I have mostly gotten used to the very small places that your hand can hold onto this camera without pushing the wrong buttons. With the larger Zoom lens the camera is considerably heavier than with the standard 24mm lens. With the 24mm lens the camera is severly limited in its shot selection. Of course, putting a polarizer on the front of the lens is important for landscapes. Unfortunately it is difficult to determine if the polarizer is in the correct position for the shot as the image in the view screen is too vague to see well. The smaller snap shot cameras don't have a filtering capability.
The video mode is my favorite part as its a great use for blogging/recording on the go since it has a fast boot up time. I have used it for events where I would set it on my tripod and let it record. However, the battery life isn't amazing but I was able to record 1080p 30fps for a good 45 minutes straight before the battery starting getting low. I can't find any battery grips like the DSLRs but switching out batteries is super fast even with a tripod adapter on the bottom.
I bought some accessories to make the camera phenomenal which include a metal brace frame to make it fit your palm since the litttle grip does not cut it for me. I have also bought a EF adapter to use other lenses.
Overall it is still my favorite camera and if you have any questions, I will be more than happy to answer.
Everything else, is very good.
