Product Description
The Foscam FI9804P is one of Foscam's latest "Plug & Play" cameras featuring the ability to connect via smartphone by simply scanning the QR code on the underside of the camera. Bypassing the need to access your router and setup port forwarding, the FI9804P can be set up effortlessly by anyone, even those with very little IT experience. The FI9804P adopts 720p HD video quality (1280 x 720) as well as a high performance media processor, single SOC chip (built-in ARM+DSP) and high speed video protocol processor. As a result, it is capable of H.264 video compression allowing for extremely smooth video transmission with minimal bandwidth consumption. In addition, due to the small file sizes produced by H.264 video compression it has the ability to save tremendous hard drive space when doing manual video recording. The Foscam FI9804P features 720p HD quality video, H.264 video compression, Wireless-N capability, remote internet viewing, motion detection, and night vision. In addition, it is smartphone compatible (Iphone, Android & Blackberry) as well as viewable over the internet using a compatible app. The camera functions well as part of a home or office security system with remote internet monitoring ability. With 60 second easy setup with QR code scan via Smartphone and the option of live viewing and storage via FoscamCloud (free trial included), this is one of the best values available for an outdoor surveillance camera purchase.

Update with more info 03/01/2014
Still like this IP Cam a lot. All our Foscams continue to work well but there are a couple of things I should have mentioned in the original review. First, be sure to buy Foscam products from Amazon or directly from their web site. There are plenty of fakes out there so be careful. Second, I have experience with setting up over a dozen of these so it is no big deal for me, but you may want to pay for setting up your first one (and take a lot of notes). Port forwarding, which is necessary to be able to view them remotely, was a real mystery the first time I tried to set it up in my router. One recent improvement is they now offer free Dynamic DNS so you no longer have to go to somewhere like NOIP.com and setup an DDNS account. Third, getting it to send email alarms can be problematic on some email systems. I have had no problems with Charter or Wave Broadband, but Centurylink was a headache when trying to setup two for my sister. I did finally get it to work but I am not sure why. Fourth, the HD (720P and above) models (FI98xx) are the only way to go. Avoid the FI89XX models, the resolution (640 x 480) and clarity suck. I replaced all of ours with FI98xx models and it was well worth it. Fifth, they are most dependable when hard wired by Ethernet cable which half of ours are. I have to occasionally reboot the wireless ones, especially after a power outage. Sixth, you do need to get AC power to the camera. There is an alternative to that with Power Over Ethernet models (POE) but I don't have any of those and you still have to get a CAT 5 Ethernet cable to the cam and you need extra equipment (a POE hub / switch). Seventh, using Blue Iris means you have to have a computer running all the time, but you don't necessarily need to run Blue Iris. You can access the cams remotely with out it and they have built-in email and video alarm capability even without Blue Iris. Last, I recently picked up a FI9803 and it also has a good HD picture, is smaller and inexpensive but they probably work better in less exposed areas because the visor is small and not adjustable like the FI9804 and FI9805.
I might buy it again, though not if a similar camera was available, given the cons below. FOSCAM could easily overcome these self-inflicted problems and be less spammy and they would get 5 stars.
Pro #1: Camera works with zoneminder as I needed and is stable (stays connected).
Pro #2: Good picture. Good night time vision. Not a bad price for the picture quality and wireless capability.
Pro #3: Solid build.
These cameras have a web server and should all be capable of user configuration and use via web browsers with clear instructions in the user guide using freely available de facto standard (non-vendor) browser plugins. The documentation should clearly document the web port.
Camera viewing should NOT require vendor provided installation or vendor plugins to see the image. Downloading manuals or firmware updates should NOT require registration.
Con #1 - I had to install their program to find the camera. I found the IP address, but did not know that the camera's http server is on port 88. They should provide the port in the instructions to connect and configure for those of us who do not wish to run an executable. I installed it on a virtual machine because I don't trust a foreign camera company to give me clean code.
Con #2 - A vendor-specific plugin is required for the browser to log into to the camera. This is complete and total BS. I have never seen another vendor require this. I installed it on a virtual machine because I don't trust a foreign camera company to give me clean code.
Con #3 - You *must* provide an email address to download firmware and then agree to: "Please note that by entering your email address, in addition to receiving firmware updates, you may receive emails regarding new product releases as well as discounts on future purchases."
Con #4 - I got an email "Foscam.us - Email List Signup - Confirmation Needed" and I did *NOT* click the link, but I STILL GET A SPAM EMAIL EVERY THREE DAYS ON AVERAGE!! TOTAL BS!!!
Con #5 - is pretty narrow view. Had to put fisheye on it for my needs. They don't offer any wider option, but they should.
Con #6 - ethernet plug IS HUMONGOUS and SQUARE, requiring a HUGE HOLE in your wall. My other POE cameras need a much smaller hole because they are round and smaller.
Con #7 - The camera I received was used. I could not log in because the previous customer had set a password. And it was named "FrontDoor". I had to do factory reset to login.
There is only one problem: it is damn hard to set it up! I have never been able to make cloud monitoring available. Besides the camera setup, there is router port forwarding setup which is not mentioned in the menu. I consider myself relatively tech savy: installing my desktops, setting up home security sensor monitors, fix my cars. Yet I was unable to get the cloud monitoring work on my phone! So basically it is useless to me.
And even better, chrome extension has been invalid for more than half a year and the manufacturer has provided with no solutions.
I am going with Dlink cams now. They are not fancy as Foscam cams, but they work, easily!
