We have two of these FI9804 IP cams and they work well as part of our 8 IP cam security system. We use blue iris to monitor our dogs and watch the Koi pond with the two 9804 cams from work. They have a sharper image than the dlink cams of similar resolution. Replaced the two interior dlink cams with pan and tilt FI9831 models which have a much superior image. Also have a a FI9805 but I like the wide format of the 9804 better. The only complaint I have is their Android app does not work well, but I found that tinyCam works well on my phone and tablet.

Still like this IP Cam a lot. All our Foscams continue to work well but there are a couple of things I should have mentioned in the original review. First, be sure to buy Foscam products from Amazon or directly from their web site. There are plenty of fakes out there so be careful. Second, I have experience with setting up over a dozen of these so it is no big deal for me, but you may want to pay for setting up your first one (and take a lot of notes). Port forwarding, which is necessary to be able to view them remotely, was a real mystery the first time I tried to set it up in my router. One recent improvement is they now offer free Dynamic DNS so you no longer have to go to somewhere like NOIP.com and setup an DDNS account. Third, getting it to send email alarms can be problematic on some email systems. I have had no problems with Charter or Wave Broadband, but Centurylink was a headache when trying to setup two for my sister. I did finally get it to work but I am not sure why. Fourth, the HD (720P and above) models (FI98xx) are the only way to go. Avoid the FI89XX models, the resolution (640 x 480) and clarity suck. I replaced all of ours with FI98xx models and it was well worth it. Fifth, they are most dependable when hard wired by Ethernet cable which half of ours are. I have to occasionally reboot the wireless ones, especially after a power outage. Sixth, you do need to get AC power to the camera. There is an alternative to that with Power Over Ethernet models (POE) but I don't have any of those and you still have to get a CAT 5 Ethernet cable to the cam and you need extra equipment (a POE hub / switch). Seventh, using Blue Iris means you have to have a computer running all the time, but you don't necessarily need to run Blue Iris. You can access the cams remotely with out it and they have built-in email and video alarm capability even without Blue Iris. Last, I recently picked up a FI9803 and it also has a good HD picture, is smaller and inexpensive but they probably work better in less exposed areas because the visor is small and not adjustable like the FI9804 and FI9805.

super easy to set, some smaller hick ups and a bunch of wires that is much to thick
So, let me start at the unboxing experience. The camera came in a standard box, I opened it and there was a mini manuala cd, a wall wart a wall mount and small stuff. The funny thing on the box is, that IF the camera is used in any country outside the US,the reach of the infra red-night vision is only 8 Meters (about 22 feet) -if it is used in the US it is 20 meters (about 50 feet) if you can believe the box (see pictures)....... European laws make the maker responsible for any statement they print on the box.....(that made them loose the first half star......no BS please....I am allergicSetup, I dont have a cd rom drive anymore, so I needed to download the firmware and software needed from foscam.usI do advice updating the firmware, it made some thing quite a bit easier. A small tool called ipcameratool helps you finding your camera in your IP setup.IMPORTANT: If you plan on using the camera wireless, you MUST first set everything up via Ethernet cable.I was able to setup the Alarm function (snapshot on movement) , motion detection, email, ddns (ip resolution over a unified address provided by FOSCAM) and Alarms within less then 1 hr. I admit I am computer savvy but I am NOT a rocket scientist.. If I can do it you can do it!Small tip: I had problems with the camera reasigning the ip address when I disconnected from ethernet and connected via wifi.So what I did is, I switched of DHCP and asigned the IP manually.Port forwarding was reasonably easy, my Verizon router was very well programmed, setting the port was no problem. (This point may be a bit tricky for absolute beginners).Email.......ok, that one was tricky. I tried first using gmail, but the information available to me was not correct and i did not manage to set it up via gmail. I know it has been done, and the support line at Foscam will know what to do. But since I run a server at 1&1 anyway, I used that smtp settings and it worked like a charm.The picture quality is astonishing good. The motion alert works fantastic, the camera seems sturdy. So far, I give it 4 stars.But I always update my reviews if things change.
