First to clarify what case this phone is for and why some reviewers say it fits fine and others say it doesn’t fit. There are two different phone models that are called the J7. The model that Virgin and Boost refer to as the J7 2016 is an SPHJ700Axx. Another phone refereed to as the J7 is the SPH710xxx. They are different sizes and the speaker looks different. Save yourself time and money by knowing what phone you have so you don’t buy the wrong case.

I have two Virgin Mobile J7 2016’s and can confirm that the following cases all fit the phone.

A well designed case for clumsy people or others that are bound to drop the phone many times. Well padded on all sides with good texture on the shell to easily grip. Increases the size of the phone, maybe twice as thick and even more padding on the ends. Has all the cut-outs unlike some others. My wife had the same case for her LG Volt and in 1.5 years and it survived drops, accidental throws and the inside of her large well stuffed purse. Other than an Otter box Defender (which isn’t available at the time of this review) This is the only case I considered for my wife who is hard on phones.

A fine slim case that slides into the pocket well. It’s easier to grip than it looks and only adds a little in size over the base phone. The biggest problem with this case is that it’s missing the cut-out for the top microphone.

Aside: If you are getting “Google sync is currently experiencing problems” errors look at your Google and Samsung accounts and make sure you aren’t trying to sync with devices you no longer use. I had two Samsung and three Google accounts for devices I no longer use. Deleting the account entries solved the problem.

Good case that was affordable and shipped fairly quickly.

I've dropped my phone a few times with this case and it's done what it needed to to protect it. My only gripe is that the rubber insert is so tight inside the plastic shell (It's a two part case) that the buttons are difficult to get past the shell in order to seat it properly. This makes removing the case and reseating the phone a chore.

I don't regret the purchase though, and as long as I limit the number of times I take the case off, I can live with it being hard to put back on.

I bought a bunch of these cases for myself, my wife and my dad and I definitely would recommend the cases to anyone with the samsung J7 phone.
This case is made of two parts. one is hard plastic case and the inner one is the rubber/silicone sleeve. when I tried to put the whole case on phone, the soft sleeve is sliding behind the hard plastic. so I had to take the hard plastic out and adjust sleeve and put the hard plastic back on. other than that simple hassle, this case is perfect. I have accidentally dropped my phone on side walk within few hours and heard a little cracking noise. I thought I broke the phone. when I lifter the phone, to my pleasant astonishment, that noise came from hard plastic separating from soft sleeve. there is not a single scratch on the phone or hard plastic. there are bunch of times later the case protected the phone when it fell from couch hand rest and from bed and jacket pocket. This is one of the best purchases I made.

* The case seems secure enough to protect my phone from most falls, coupled with a screen protector.
* Inexpensive
* I like the look. Basic, yet pretty.

Cons:
* It's a little loose fitting on the top and bottom where it's the softer material. The sides where it's the harder case are nice and snug.
* It was a little hard to get it on right
* The buttons don't press easily sometimes
* The cutout for the power cable is too small (but if it is... try finding a cord with a smaller connector)
* I was also expecting the back to be more rubbery to offer a good grip, but they were harder plastic and still somewhat slippery (the cause of my last phone's demise).
