The lightbulbs are wonderful, thanks to the 26 LEDs placed in a circle, the light spread is superior to any standard LED bulb I have ever used. The plastic is virtually indestructible(unless you put them in a box with heavy items and ship them across the country during a snowstorm where they spend 6days traveling the country).
We use these in a ceiling fan fixture that was difficult to find LED bulbs for since they have a tendency to look like spot light on the floor rather than lighting the room. We tried MANY bulbs before finding these and deciding to give them a try.
They give off a nice bright white light, not blue as some others do. When compared to a standard 60w incandescent, they are a bit brighter(but not quite as bright as a 75w), the light spread is BETTER(I have never seen this in any other LED), however the light quality is very similar.
The less energy thing is much bigger than just a lower elec bill, we had a major power surge in our home last April, taking out $40k+ in items(appliances, tvs, electronics, computers, you name it, power protectors are useless with this type of event...and we were the lucky ones, the same night two other neighborhood homes burned down-we had arching behind several appliances, but thank God nothing ignited!!). It was recommended that we switch to LED bulbs in our home to pull less electric to help avoid future problems. I am not an elec engineer or electrician, but that our electrician recommended them and the elec engineer hubby works with agreed(hubby is materials eng) was good enough for us). We live in a 6yr old golf course home in an established(25yr old) upper middle class subdivision(the mayor, several large business owners, hockey team owner all share our locale), who wudda thunk it? This is apparently is becoming a common issue as we utilize more and more electronics in our homes and subsequently pull more power than our homes/neighborhood transformers were designed to handle.
If you are in the market for LED bulbs, try these, you wont be disappointed!!
360 degree spread is like any incandescent. They do not fade like CFLs, and are not fragile like CFLs. They are instant on.
The light is a true 2700K, so matches my home nicely. Many LEDs say "warm" color, but are actually 3000k -- a slight bluish. These are actually what they claim.
Time will tell if they last the claimed 22+ years. Even if they only last 1 year, they will have paid for themselves in terms of electricity considering the way I use lights in my home.
Very impressed with the new technology. Much better than earlier generation LEDs.
The color reproduction isn't perfect. The only LEDs I've found with excellent reproduction are the GE Reveals. But those cost more, output less lumens, and are not omnidirectional. I only use the GE Reveal bulbs in recessed cans in my kitchen that only need to shine downward.
These Philips work with dimmers about as well as any other LED that claims to be dimmable (which means not great).
Philips 433227 10.5-watt Slim Style Dimmable A19 LED Light Bulb, Soft White (Pack of 4)
Whether or not they'll last as long as they claim, (I believe they say 22.8 years) is unknown at this point, but we suspect they'll be close, or maybe even longer, either way . . . they've inadvertently had some unexpected bonuses that will add to their final worthiness of the presently higher expense.
Like many, we were rather ticked off at the hyperbole surrounding the infamous screw in florescent bulbs and thanks to our ignorantly assuming we could trust the "science" chatter when they hit the lightbulb scene, we wasted well over a 100 bucks on the touchy, toxic screw in florescent bulbs which in every case, lasted less than a month, some only a few days.
We vowed to never "go green" again based on moronic claims spurred from within our criminal and derisory congress. . . which itself is driven by a negligent, AlGorian global warming panacea or madman, whichever way you look at it.
Nonetheless, being lifelong "backyard engineers" and experimenters, we've tested and utilized a lot of the new technologically advanced LED's, so purchasing these was, (unlike the former) . . . based on personally proven truths, needing no clamor from our undisciplined - discipline of politically motivated science fields.
In short, we're so far advanced in this technology, these bulbs were merely an inherent consequence that had to succeed.
We haven't checked with any of the standard professional reviewers on the benefits of these bulbs, but based on our own findings, it seems likely, they could call them a "species specific bug light" as well . . . and living in "bug central" that's a really cool and unexpected benefit.
There is no doubt about it, using these as your outdoor porch lights etc., is going to result in the happy condition of fewer insects waiting to greet you when you open the door to pay the pizza delivery person.
So far, most "science" confesses, they're unsure why moths, etc., are attracted to light. Strangely, they seldom even discuss heat when it comes to this subject. But we personally look for and study our southern creepy-crawlers and flying insects as a consequence of our years of interest in photographing the little "buggers." Without any doubt, there are a whole lot of "porch-light species" who apparently arrive at the light source only to be quickly and thoroughly disappointed, discouraged, and back on their un-merry way to bug someone else with a watt sucking incandescent bulb.
It seems obvious they're expecting to find heat that they otherwise would have found from an incandescent bulb. Upon arriving however, you can watch them swirl around the fixture for a short period, sometimes backing off momentarily for another try, another swirl around the glow, and, in most cases, they're back on their way. Obviously, many of the 'crawling' insects and arachnids will hang out longer simply because it takes them more time to arrive and investigate. There's also a few of the less common moths that seem more interested in light than heat, but all in all, the worst of the worst insects are mysteriously disinterested in this light bulb. Not sure if there's any ultrasonic emanation from these that may antagonize some insects, it would be interesting to know. The most obvious seems to be the fact, they put off practically no heat, except for the area immediately next to the threaded fixture, (even after days of being powered up this heat is negligible) and just by watching insects behaviors on approaching the light, we believe their lack of interest is due to this multiplied benefit which would include, no more browned, burn-stained or warped lamp shades? I saw a few reviews of concerns that this heat at the base was too much? We have two that burn 24-7 in rather cheap ceiling fixtures and we can touch the base at any time for any length of time, without being "burned."
If they make a smaller version or if yours has room for it, there's no reason this wouldn't be a great refrigerator bulb as well.
We've also installed several outside where they've already been subjected to lengthy periods of '0' degrees degree Fahrenheit, extended periods of 100 percent humidity, and a few days of nigh 100 degree weather with no resulting issues. At 0 degrees, they're instantly on. The real test of a full summer of high heat and humidity is on the way. . .
It's difficult to know whether we've saved any cash yet, but that's only because we've yet to replace all the bulbs throughout our property and actually track the savings. We'd strongly recommend using the new SGL 4ft UL & DLC Listed T8 LED Tube Lights (100V-277V AC) - 5000K Daylight 2310 Lumens G13 LED T8 Tube Frosted Cover for Office, Commercial, General Lighting, Replacing Traditional 48W Fluorescent Tube as well, where the florescent bulbs' heat, annoying noise and slow starting issues are all solved by the LED's lack of heat, wonderful silence and rapid/instant start up, not to mention, "minimally" a 50 percent decrease in power consumption!
These bulbs put off a very pleasant light, and might even surprise you in their overall brightness. I would say they exceed the rating equivalences given by the manufacturer. Somehow, the light seems more "dense" if that makes any sense, sort of a smoother, inexplicably a more comfortable light if you will. The inherent design of the bulb also makes for a very unique aesthetic look that might please you or even spruce up an old light you've gotten bored with? HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
As always, delivered on time with Amazon Prime, and packaged very well. Which also brings to light the fact, these bulbs won't "pop" or break easily compared to the infamous eggshell strength that our wonderful gift of the old incandescents are susceptible to.
WELL WORTH THE BUY! Time will tell a more precise cost benefit analyses.
