About Swagman

"Ride, paddle, explore:
seek your adventure"

That philosophy was the intention of founders Jim and Jan Morris who saw an opportunity to create a better way to transport your bike back in the early 90’s. Swagman was one of the first companies worldwide to design and market a hitch style bike rack. Over the years, that small bike rack company based in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia grew to include numerous other ground breaking designs in the North American Bicycle, RV and Automobile markets.

Amazon.com

Transport up to four bikes at once whether driving across country or to the campsite with the Swagman XTC-4 cross-country bike rack. Designed to fit a two-inch receiver hitch, the bike rack makes it easy to load and unload your bikes from ground level. The rack includes a set of fast-adjustable, quick-release tire hoops and a ratcheting top arm, helping it fit a wide range of bike frames. In addition, the rack's center arm folds down when not in use, making it easy to access the rear of the vehicle without removing the rack. And to ensure that your rack doesn't rust over time, the XC-4 is powder coated. Built to provide more ground clearance than other racks, the cross-country rack comes with new and improved wheel straps for bicycle security.

Best Bike Rack Ever!

Best Bike Rack Ever!
I absolutely LOVE this bike rack! Coming from a "Hanging Style", this platform setup is much more stable, and convenient. The time I spend loading and unloading bikes has literally been cut in half. For my family of four, I have two adult size bikes with child seats on the back + 2 small kid's bikes. I bought this rack so I'd have room for the kid's bigger bikes as they got older, but their small bikes fit just fine. There is basically unlimited adjustment on frame height and wheelbase to accommodate any bike you have.It does take some time to put the rack together and get it all setup for your specific application, but once it's done, it's done and can be easily changed if necessary. The one minor inconvenience is that you have to have a socket wrench to tighten the bolt in the receiver tube, but the added benefit of not having any "slop" is worth carrying around the wrench. I LOVE how the rack can be folded up when not in use, so you don't even have to worry about removing it. With the rack down and no bikes on it, I can easily open the hatch on my Mini Van.Speaking of Mini Vans, if you have one, be conscious of the fact that you have to be very careful going in and out of driveways - I scraped my rack twice in the first week because I wasn't thinking about it. Only a small part of the tube sticks out of the receiver before sloping up, but with a low vehicle that can be just enough to catch on the road if you're not paying attention. The one CON (as you can see from the photo) is that with the bikes loaded, my taillights are basically completely covered. This is going to be the case with most racks, so I think I am going to add some reflective tape to the rack or maybe even wire up some additional lights.All-in-all, I would highly recommend this rack. My parents actually own the 2-bike version and they love theirs so much, I HAD to get one too!

I waited til our road trip was complete to fully review this rack. From my point of view it does not disappoint. Assembly of the hitch itself was a little tedious, and figuring out the placement of the bikes took some trial and error. But after your initial time investment of putting together the hitch and figuring out the bike placement, loading and offloading won’t be a problem for future trips. For us what worked was two youth bikes on the inside and two adult bikes on the outside. The trip was great. I never felt like the bikes were going to fall off. They felt completely secure from the time we loaded them on to the time we arrived at our destination. Based on other reviews, my biggest hesitation with this big purchase was my worry that the hitch would not fold up properly (when bikes were not loaded) as it would touch my bumper. I have a 2016 Honda Pilot and it folded up just fine without any issues, as seen from the attached pics. The only downside is the hitch is a bit heavy, but I don’t mind that if the payoff is a sturdy, secure “fit.” It is also a bit expensive, but at the same time it is a bit less expensive than some of the comparable alternatives. If you’re looking for a good, long-term investment, this is it. In terms of shipping, it arrived earlier than expected in fully protective wrapping. Perfect condition.

An excellent rack. The sliding ratcheting frame holder is solid and does not move. Very solid, no movement or sway at highway speeds. Easily holds 4 adult mountain bikes. It folds up for storage if you leave it on the car. We can fold down the center shaft so that we have access to our hatch. It comes with the locking pin and cable as well, so don't order that separately.

Beware this is a heavy rack, solid steel. What makes it stable also makes it heavy. It really needs a solid vehicle to use it. I would not recommend it for a compact car.

Overall though, this is perfect for us and we are very happy!
