About Swagman

"Ride, paddle, explore:
seek your adventure"

That philosophy was the intention of founders Jim and Jan Morris who saw an opportunity to create a better way to transport your bike back in the early 90’s. Swagman was one of the first companies worldwide to design and market a hitch style bike rack. Over the years, that small bike rack company based in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia grew to include numerous other ground breaking designs in the North American Bicycle, RV and Automobile markets.

Amazon.com

The XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Hitch Mount Rack from Swagman is a versatile hitch-mount rack that can easily accommodate children's and adult bikes, downhill bikes, cruiser bikes, full-suspension bikes, BMX bikes, "Y" frame designs, and much more (and without the hassle of removing wheels). The XC slides into a two-inch receiver and carries up to two bikes.

Swagman's XC Cross-Country 2-Bike Rack easily adjusts to accommodate a wide variety of bike frames. The XC easily adjusts to different bike frame sizes with the simple movement of the wheel hoops. Its frame grip arms feature a soft, frame-friendly coating to protect your bike's finish. When not in use, the rack folds up for easy storage.

A Solid Bike Carrier
4 Stars
A Solid Bike Carrier
I was looking for a bike carrier that was not big and bulky and takes up alot of floor space when not in use. Looking at pictures on line, it was difficult to tell how sturdy it is. While I have not transported my bikes yet, it definitely feels well built. I also like how easily it folds up for storage. I really like how the bike sit in the wheel holder trays and are then secured in place with the padded hooks. The carriage bolt and knob used to secure the wheel holder trays to the frame is something to keep an eye on to see how secure they are during transport, but other reviewers have mentioned they are fine. I think you have to be mindful not to overtighten. My only concern at this point is how easy it would be for someone to steal the carrier from your vehichle. The bottom arm that mounts into the trailer hitch is secured by a threaded bolt that goes thru the hitch and then is secured with a pin. Ideally, it should be setup to receive a hitch pin that has a locking mechanism on it. You can still do that with this hitch, but, you would need to drill out the threaded hole in the hitch arm to allow for a larger hitch pin to be used. That might mess with the warranty, not sure. However, even if I did that, thieves could still easily take the bulk of the carrier by simply unscrewing two set screws on the bottom of the carrier that connects the carrier arm to the carrier. That would simly leave the carrier arm sticking out of the car hitch, but thieves could just get a new one.Additionally, unless you use a heavy duty cable to keep the adjustable hooks in place, it would be simple to take the bikes off the rack. But again, even if you went to the effort to lock the hooks down, a thief still has two easy options to remove the entire assembly from the car.It sucks that we even have to worry about thieves taking our property but we do, so while my first impression of the carrier itself is positive, it has some design flaws that do not easily allow for simple security measures.

I ordered this bike rack with a threaded hitch pin of the same brand because it is lockable and it works perfectly fine. I test drove in the highway, I drove 60 kmph, 80 kmph up to 110 kmph and it felt like I dont carry any bike at all. No shaking or rattling and well secured. Both the hitch pin and bike rack were delivered 2 days early than a target date. Assembly is very easy, I did not even read the instruction, I just followed the illustration. I did install 1 bike hook and a set of wheel slot because I have only 1 bike for my kid. It is good that I can open my truck bed without folding down the bike rack ( as shown in the picture, I have to unload the bike though which is not a big deal ). Please note that my truck is a mid size truck so for a full size truck you might have to fold down the bike rack to have access to your bed.

Was easy to put together and is super stable. The reviewer that shows it wiggling either didn't tighten down the two bolts that hold the rack to the part that goes into the receiver or they didn't tighten down the thread in receiver pin.

I wish it tilted but the more expensive versions that do that were sold out along with pretty much every other bike rack on the planet it seems. At least this one folds up nicely for storage and the upright section folds down when there are no bikes on board so you can open the hatch.

Overall, for just a hair over $200 Canadian this is a pretty solid buy.
