They call him The Mute for a reason.
Hard, cold and calculated, he rarely speaks.
When he does, it’s with disdain.
When he does, his words aren’t meant for me.
When he does, my stomach flips and my world tilts on its axis.
He is thirty-three.
I am eighteen.
He’s a single dad and my father’s business partner.
I’m just a kid to him and his enemy’s daughter.
He’s emotionally unavailable.
And I am…feeling. Feeling things I shouldn’t feel for him.
Trent Rexroth is going to break my heart. The writing isn’t just on the wall, it’s inked on my soul.
And yet, I can’t stay away.
A scandal is the last thing my family needs. But a scandal is what we’re going to give them.
And oh, what beautiful chaos it will be.

Wow just wow, as Leigh does to outdo herself every time, I have no idea, but her books just keep improving every time.
This trip with our last Hothole (yesssss, my heart cries for it), was one too intense, emotional, distressing, sad, hopeful, unique, tender, hot, raw, I loved every word in the book, every sentence so full of feelings.
I knew of course that my dear Leigh would never disappoint me, and that Trent would make me fall at his feet, but let me tell you that it was that and more, Leigh created her magic and gave us a unique story, with twists and turns that I never expected, with unique prose, masterfully developed, she always has the ability to create stories that make you feel, live and suffer with the characters.
I started the book thinking that no one could ever outdo my Dean, but I was completely wrong, Trent, omyGod!!!, the mute, perfectly imperfect.
A journey of two lonely souls, that found in the least expected way, but perfectly complemented. Trent and Edie are perfect for each other, despite the differences that separate them, and the drawbacks in their relationship, they had me sighing with love, crying, suffering, laughing, hopefully.
Trent, called the Mute, for good reason, is an enigmatic character since we met him in Vicious, having a very different upbringing to that of his friends, he has had to fight much more for what he wants. He is a dark, quiet character who prefers solitude to the company of people. He has to raise his daughter Luna alone and besides she is also a solitary little girl who does not speak and has difficulties to relate to others.
Edie is a teenager who carries a heavy load on her shoulders, who does not have a life like that of other teenagers and who despite coming from a wealthy family also struggles for what she wants. She is a beautiful girl, young and full of life, who loves the ocean and surf.
In an adverse situation they find and begin with the left foot, hating themselves and wanting to kill each other, but in spite of everything they are attracted physically.
As they begin to relate sparks jump and each time the attraction is harder to hide. The encounters between them are always explosive, with sparks jumping from both, hot and sexy ... In the end they have to give up to the attraction and those scenes, wow, spontaneous combustion, that scenes, oh my God !!! They made me blush on more than one occasion.
Luna, is a unique character, a sweet, tender, solitary kid, who can not communicate with others. The fierceness, love, and surrender with which Trent protected her made me so tender, made me want more than once to enter the book and embrace them.
The hotholes, Dean, Jamie, Vicious, as always was a delight every time they were together, I laughed too much with them, but I fall in love with the fierce way they cover their backs and protect friends and loved ones.
Bane, I need his story, really, Russian, sexy, hot and I just finished killing me his unconditional support with Edie. Super intriguing, may Leigh bring us his story.
The other secondary characters perfectly complemented the story.
This is a unique story, with so many feelings, so much passion, so much sweetness, so much reality, so much sadness, so much anguish, so much hope, and that epilogue, gahhhh, I cried of emotion with him, that Mr. epilogue.
A story that you will not want to miss, ladies and gentlemen, I fell at it feet, totally in love with the characters, their way of being and the capacity of surrender and sacrifice for those who love. I DO NOT WANT THE END, I do not want to say goodbye to the hotholes, my heart is not ready yet ...
Unique, masterfully written and very well developed ....
Trent Rexroth, a.k.a. The Mute, loves his daughter Luna more than life itself, and that’s why it kills him that he can’t reach her. He doesn’t grace many people with his words, but he freely gives them all to her and never receives any in return. Being deprived of the kind of father/daughter communication most people take for granted guts him completely.
Edie Van Der Zee lives in a mansion, but her life is anything but luxurious. She spends her days taking care of her mentally ill mother and trying to collect as much money as she can in any way possible. She needs money desperately despite her insanely rich parents, because at the age of 18, she is helping to take care of someone else, and that someone else is not living in her home and is at the mercy of her father’s whims.
Edie’s father, Jordan Van De Zee, is a cruel man that is anything but a good husband and father. He barely acknowledges Edie unless he wants something, and she should have known he wanted something when he forced her to come work for him. Using the only leverage he has over her that would make her do absolutely anything, he drops the bomb on Edie that he expects her to steal from Trent for him.
To say that Trent Rexroth and Jordan Van Der Zee don’t get along would be an understatement, so when Jordan brings Edie to work and demands that she be allowed a job, Trent’s first reaction is to fight him on it…that is until he sees her with Luna. Because Trent spends a huge chunk of his time at the office, Luna’s therapist suggested that he take her to work with him sometimes. Edie happens to run into her and her nanny in the breakroom which is where he sees the thing that changes his mind about Edie’s employment completely. Somehow she manages to have Luna smiling and engaging in a way that he only dreamed of. He knows right then and there that he can’t let her go.
Something else draws Trent to Edie though, and it drives him crazy. They don’t get along in any way. Every verbal exchange they have becomes a sparring match, but underneath it all is a burning desire that neither of them can extinguish. In fact, over time it becomes increasingly apparent that they will inevitably combust.
Scandalous is well written, sexy, heartbreaking and heartwarming. It’s a book that I wanted to go on forever, because aside from how phenomenal of a story it is, the reality that Trent was the last hothole I would read about broke my heart. This series will go down as one of my favorites of all time. I adore it, and it solidified L. J. Shen’s spot in my heart forever. It is no secret that she has become my favorite author. I fangirl for her like a teenager over their favorite boy band, and I will never be ashamed of it. Amazing talent like hers is rare, and the fact that it comes in the form of an equally amazing human being is icing on the cake.
There were two little words in this book that caused tears to unexpectedly burst from eyes, and once you read it maybe you will know what I’m talking about. Of course, there is a chance you won’t, but I can guarantee you that you WILL be touched by something. This is a book about people that have never had an easy time in this world, but they survive and they thrive, and it’s an incredibly beautiful thing to witness. If you haven’t read this one yet, drop everything else you’re doing and one-click it now! If you haven’t started this series yet, rectify that immediately! The Sinners of Saint series is one that no romance fan should miss!

Trent Rexroth is the epitome of the strong and silent type. Always dealt a bad hand, he has a cruel and ruthless side, but does it in such a calm way, making his prey squirm under his scrutiny. His silence speaks louder than anything he ever could say, he gives off such power and dominance without even opening his mouth. But that doesn’t mean he always has control, he has the weight of his world on his shoulders juggling his personal, professional life and his new obsession, Edie Van de Zee.
Edie, the eighteen-year-old daughter of the FHH business partner Jordan, wants nothing to do with the world of FHH and wealth. She is determined to find her own way in life, so when she is forced to work for FHH, she desperately wants out. The attraction she feels to Trent is strong, but she knows to steer clear of him. But when her father blackmails her into spying on Trent, she reluctantly agrees because the alternative is not an option. She hates that she has been put in this position, especially as she doesn’t know what her father’s vendetta against Trent is, even more so as she gets closer to Trent and his daughter Luna. But when secrets are revealed, and Trent’s past comes back to haunt him, will they ever be able to give their relationship a real shot, or were they doomed from the offset?
Trent has flaws, who out of LJ’s heroes doesn’t, but LJ’s ability to make them endearing and lovable is one that not many authors have managed. By the end of every book in the SoS series, I have forgiven and understood their actions, just the same as their heroines. And this is the same for Trent, mostly through Luna and how he finally opens his heart to another woman, Edie. He makes the ultimate sacrifice at the end, he puts a level of trust in her that he never has for anyone else, and even when he thinks she’s broken it, he still fights for her. Dean is still my favourite HotHole, but Trent with his behaviour with Luna, how he would do anything for the ones he loves, and how he acted at the end of Scandalous has made him a close second, and in my eyes the most honourable of the group.
Edie, even though she is only eighteen, she is so mature, and she too has so much pressure riding on her own shoulders. Her fiercely protective nature for everyone important to her, which spreads to Luna, makes her the most compassionate of the heroines in this series. She was mature and acted in ways which I was impressed with for her age. She has to carry out actions which even though she knows are wrong and she harbours guilt for, she is so desperate to provide for those who are relying on her, she is willing to do anything. She is so strong, having so many difficult aspects in her life, but Trent allows her to be herself and share the burden, allowing her at times to act her age.
Edie and Trent had sexual tension in spades, which was only intensified by the forbidden aspect of their relationship. They both felt guilt for the attraction between them, but ultimately it won out and when they gave in, it was explosive, slowly turning into love. But Scandalous had another layer of intensity, with the storyline of Jordan and the secrets surrounding his past, forcing them to realise their feelings for one another, as well as face other forces trying to prevent them from a future. The twists and turns were unexpected, and I was hooked to see how the plot would unravel. I think in terms of storyline, this has been my favourite book so far because of the extra depth of character development and how invested you become in the whole world.
Reading Scandalous of the second time, it has proven to me once again that Edie and Trent are the most selfless couple of the SoS series. I loved the final scene, giving an insight into their future. The tide brought them together in the end.
Problema?
Now that you have a better idea of how much I adore Leigh's work...and if you saw any of my blog posts leading up to SCANDALOUS's release, I'm sure you can guess how excited I was for this book. I've been wanting SCANDALOUS since the moment I finished VICIOUS.
I've been ridiculously curious about Trent because we didn't get to see much of him in Vic's book, and while I was definitely still excited about Dean and Jamie's stories, I was even more eager for Trent's. All of that anticipation just continued to build, and so I felt like I'd been curious about Trent for what feels like ages!
And you know what?
SCANDALOUS absolutely wowed me! It was exactly what I'd hoped it would be and I thought it was PERFECT! It was raw, harsh, and breathtakingly beautiful. It had that dirty, dark vibe that permeates VICIOUS, but was also still completely its own story. I absolutely adored Trent...I was pretty sure I would, but I actually loved him even more than I expected too...he still hasn't topped Vicious for me, but he's second out of the Hot Holes. ;) I loved seeing him with Luna. I'm really enjoying seeing the Hot Holes grow up, and daddy Trent is absolutely fantastic. I really loved Edie as a character, too. She was strong, caring, and vulnerable in ways that I really didn't expect, but loved getting to see...and put her with Trent and wowza!
That brings me to the romance....oh did I ever did I love the romance in SCANDALOUS! Edie and Trent were absolutely amazing together! I loved seeing them open up to each other, and it was so wonderful to see how their feelings developed! SCANDALOUS does happen to have some taboo aspects as Trent happens to be business partners with Edie's father and they have a 15-year age gap between them, but Edie and Trent actually complemented each other so well! Their chemistry was sizzling, but their interactions were also deep, and so beautiful and emotional! This book seriously gave me ALL THE FEELS!
I've been a super fangirl of L.J. Shen ever since VICIOUS, and my love for her books and magical way with words just continues to grow! She has a way of twisting my emotional in a cathartic, gut-wrenching, but wonderful way and I always LIVE for her books! SCANDALOUS is phenomenal and if you like taboo romances that will have your heart spinning in circles and your emotions in knots, then I think you'll love it just as much as I did! If darker romances with plenty of steam are your jam you seriously need to pick up one of L.J. Shen's books! Seriously...do it now! I'd start with VICIOUS or SCANDALOUS personally...you can't go wrong with Vicious or Trent. Prepare to be confused by how much you love her not-so-nice leading men though. They're definitely not "good" guys, but boy do they ever make you and their ladies feel good. ;)
