This is a Discontinued Product no longer available on the Yakima website but still functions well
Even though it is a discontinued product it arrived in a fully sealed undamaged original box. Very easy to assemble and install. As a discontinued product it may or may not come with some advantages and disadvantages. Price is definitely less expensive than products Yakima is selling now, although the Ridgeback Tilt-Away Rack designed for four bikes does show a price drop from $379 to $303.20 as of today. Only other issue specific to this model is the Deadlock part 8002411 to lock the rack and bikes is not available anymore although I did find one in the high $40 range at another retailer. I bought the Yakima Hitchlock thinking that would work but a few tugs after locking it in place and it fell off. After several unsuccessful attempts I returned it. Next, I bought a basic trailer hitch Lock pin set compatible with Class I & II hitches but the treaded nature of the Yakima hitch pin meant it wouldn't insert so that is going back. Think I'll just leave it unlocked and hope no one with a 3/4" socket wrench walks by my car with bad intentions while I'm out riding. I did submit my invoice to Yakima for their lifetime warranty. Whether or not they will honor it I cannot say, but so far haven't had a rejection. I did order the TubeTop part 8002531 as my wife's "lady" bike frame doesn't work on the rack as designed. After using a roof top rack system for years this is definitely easier. I can now go to the drive throughs at McDonalds and don't have to worry about driving into my garage and forgetting there is a bike on the roof. Only other issue that probably happens with all rear mounted bike racks is that my car's proximity sensors slam on the brakes when I put the car in reverse. For the lower price for a solidly built albeit discontinued bike rack I'm happy with the purchase.
