I have seen fancy two layer cases sold by a variety of manufacturers but for day to day protection, these are the best all around cases. The outside is a hard polycarbonate shell. The interior of the case is rubber. The holes are perfectly aligned and the buttons are tactile and functional. I use a variety of headphones and charging cables and they all fit through the openings. The rubber interior comes in contrasting colors and can become discolored so dark interiors work better for me - I have oily skin/hands. The screen is recessed behind a tall rim. The design has a tall beveled rubber edge than does not interfere with my aftermarket screen protector but is tall enough to keep table tops from touching the screen. I am hard on cases and have moved on to my third case in two years. My last case dropped and cracked; yet, the phone remains pristine. The beauty of the case is that if dropped, it will absorb the shock and prevent the force from being transferred to the glass screen on the phone. I would never buy a case with a hard interior and a soft exterior for this very reason (Think about those hard cases that snap together with a silicone cover that stretches over the outside). This is why buying a two piece case that has any plastic parts resting on the screen is troublesome. BTW, if you are really going to swim with it or drop it from a mountain top then buy one of those bullet proof, water proof, military grade, armor plated cases.
There are two problems with this Speck design. The rubber interior and edges can deteriorate and fray with time. Remember that the interior is made of rubber/silicone rather than the traditional harder TPU material offered by other brands. Rubbing on pockets or fingernails will take its toll on the rubber edges. Also, the shiny hard exterior can scratch easily if you set it down on stone or concrete with the screen facing up (k deep in mind that darker colors show more scratches).
I like a case that prevents damage to my phone and I am convinced that the hard exterior and soft interior is a clever design that has saved me from multiple accidents. It is thin enough to avoid being bulky. The smooth exterior makes it easy to slip in and out of pant pockets. The rubber edge protects the screen and is great for keeping it from slipping out of your hands or off table tops. It may not save your phone from a traumatic fall but for every day use it is almost perfect. I would say that it's a good compromise.

Great case! Durable, good fit, nice colors
I bought this case in the purple/teal color to fit my iPhone 6s. Overall, the colors are exactly as pictured, the case fit my phone perfectly, and my phone has definitely been safer for having it on. I have had this case for about a month.Speck used to make these cases where the rubber inside (in this example, the teal part) came as a separate core from the hard outer layer (the purple part). I guess the design has since been updated in the years since my last Speck case to where the case now comes in one piece - a hard outer shell with softer rubbery core.As other people have commented, this case does make the overall profile of the phone bowed, so that it won't lay flat. This means a cased phone will spin on a table. I don't mind this though - I just lay the phone down on it's face and it stays perfectly still!After about a month of basic wear and only a couple of short falls, the case is basically in like-new condition. As for my phone, well, it definitely is happy being all snug as a bug in a rug!I definitely recommend this case!
